COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

An avid outdoor sportsman and conservationist, Lewis Metzger holds life memberships with the Shikar-Safari Club International, the Safari Club International, the Houston Safari Club and the Coastal Conservation Association. He actively supports wildlife conservation with a focus on African animals. He financed and his family participated in one of the largest relocation efforts of African giraffes ever attempted and successfully completed. He funded and has actively taken part in the translocation of giraffe and elephants to safer habits and attaching satellite GPS tracking collars to rhinos, lions, buffalo, giraffe, and elephants. Four of the Metzger wildlife conservation projects are available on YouTube: "Giraffe Conservation Metzger Foundation," "14 Giraffes, 4 Rhinos & 7 Lions," "Metzger Conservation Elephants Giraffe," and "Elephant And Giraffe Capture With The Metzger Family Foundation." He is a board member of the Ivan Carter Wildlife Conservation Alliance. He also owns and operates the Wolf Springs Ranch, located in Round Top, Texas.
In August 2017, The Lewis & Peggy Metzger Foundation successfully underwrote and participated in the relocation of 19 Rothschild Giraffes in Uganda's Murchison Falls National Park.
This three-week conservation effort, in collaboration with the Ivan Carter Wildlife Conservation Alliance, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) and the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), entailed transporting the giraffes across the Nile River and releasing them to be monitored and guarded—away from potential threats to their existence. Veterinarians and biologists from the United States, Namibia, Australia and Uganda, and nearly 50 Uganda Game Scouts were part of this effort to save the increasingly endangered giraffes.
Over the last 30 years, giraffe populations across Africa have declined by an estimated 40%, shrinking from over 155,000 in 1987 to approximately 97,000 today. The Rothschild Giraffe is among the most vulnerable subspecies with an estimated 3,000 remaining in the wild—75% of which are represented at Murchison Falls National Park.
This conservation effort was an indescribably personal and hands-on experience; something so environmentally-conscious, while also breathtakingly beautiful and organic. Considerably more must be done to protect the giraffe from illegal poaching, habitat destroyers and human intervention.

Planning Your Legacy, Guarding Your Estate
While many people find estate planning to be complex, the basic idea behind it is simple: to control your assets during your lifetime while also leaving a legacy to those people and institutions you care about most. Having an estate plan in place is one of the most important steps you can take on behalf of your family and loved ones.
Since estate planning requires experience in multiple disciplines – taxes, investments and law – we act as your point person, coordinating your team’s efforts and helping you understand the issues that affect your plan. We work in conjunction with your attorney and tax advisor to help sort through questions relative to your situation, and help select estate planning strategies and vehicles that best meet your needs. We also help provide an objective perspective on the often emotional issues that surround planning, assisting you in defining and carrying out your objectives.
