The Los Angeles group utilizes their personal knowledge and relationships within Morgan Stanley to craft innovative strategies with alternative investments. Our alternative investments teams pursue a broad range of strategies in diverse markets and geographies, yet they share a common perspective on value creation. Over the long term, the best means to deliver attractive, uncorrelated returns is to focus on segments where specialized expertise and a partnership approach is rewarded; structural dislocation, capital supply/demand imbalances and complexity prevail; and Morgan Stanley's resources and reputation provide unique sourcing, information and value-creation advantages. Tanya also holds the prestigious Alternative Investments Director Designation.

About Peter White

Peter brings stability and diverse experience as the founding member of the Los Angeles Group at Morgan Stanley. Having spent 29 years in the same office, Peter has risen to become an Executive Director, a Certified Financial Planner, and a Senior Investment Management Consultant. In 2023, he has been named to the Forbes Best in State (California) Wealth Advisors for the second year in a row. Every client has a unique story and circumstances. Applying Morgan Stanley’s resources and the team’s experience, Peter develops solutions which help clients lead the lives that they have worked so hard to create.

Starting his career in government relations in Washington, DC, Peter worked with Congressional staff and various government agencies in the late 1980s and early 1990s on a variety of policy issues including international trade issues, product safety, environmental testing, and defense procurement. Moving to Los Angeles in 1992, he continued his career in government relations, working on a pilot research project for RAND and an advisory commission for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, which produced reports and recommendations on the County pension system, risk management, and the County’s real estate inventory management. Peter’s past work experience brings a thorough understanding of the macro-economic and the political environment allowing him to help position clients to navigate a rapidly changing world.

Donating his time, Peter has been a past Board member for Friendly House, the first recovery home for women addicts and alcoholics started in 1951. Friendly House now offers, detox, addiction treatment, and sober living to women. During his 21-year association with Friendly House Board of Directors, Peter was President of the Board for 7 years. He was a founding Board member in 2008 and first President of the Board of Trustees for the Episcopal School of Los Angeles. Both of his children graduated from ESLA. His last term on the Board ended in June 2023. Peter has been a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills for over 30 years and has been a past Vestry member, Treasurer, and Finance Committee member for 16 years. Living in the historic Wilshire Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, Peter was a Board member since 2007 to 2021 and past President of the Wilshire Park Association. Historic preservation is one of Peter’s passions.
Peter is a graduate of the University of Virginia, with Bachelor of Arts in History. He is a recipient of the Phillips Literary Award from the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society. He has completed course work at the Institute of European Studies at the London School of Economics and the University of Paris IV. About Tanya Hekimian

I was born in the Washington, D.C. area. I received a B.A. from The American University in 1993. I spent over twenty years working in the entertainment industry as a literary agent trainee, writer, producer and television executive overseeing the creation, sale and production of multi-million dollar film and television projects.

I joined Morgan Stanley in 2019. In four short years I became an Alternative Investments Director to help some of my clients take advantage of the opportunities in private markets. I feel my diverse background gives me a deeper understanding of my clients and their needs, helping to manage their assets as well and their liabilities. My goal is to guide them towards strategies that preserve and grow their wealth and their business interests.

A cornerstone in my life is philanthropic work. I’ve served on the National Board of StepUp and was co-chair of Los Angeles chapter where we helped to empower at risk young women to become confident, college bound and career focused. Other work includes, serving on the board of She Built It, the Westside Family YMCA and Doctors Without Borders. For four years I was a grade captain for Brentwood School’s Annual Giving Campaign. During my time at The Curtis School I served for ten years as a fundraiser for their Annual Giving Campaign to raise money for her children’s schools to fund scholarships and diversity initiatives. I currently serve on the Philanthropic Committee at Morgan Stanley in Beverly Hills and have volunteered, donated and/or raised money for multiple charities including the St. Joseph Center, Make A Wish of Greater Los Angeles and the American Cancer Society and Friendly Hand Foundation, among others.

As a proud Armenian, I’ve also served as the Chairwoman of the Armenian and Sunday school at St. James Armenian Apostolic Church. I recently found out that I am not only a descendant of Polish nobility but also of Napoleon Bonaparte. I collect the work of young and emerging artists with a focus on abstract contemporary art and my goal is that half of my collection are works of female artists. I live in West Los Angeles and in my spare time I enjoy spending time with family, cooking, sailing, going to Burning Man and travel.

13Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice.
