About James K Miller

Jim has a unique combination of professional experience as an attorney (currently non-practicing), Family Wealth Advisor and Portfolio Management Director at Morgan Stanley. His depth of knowledge provides him with a diverse set of skills and experiences to advise his clients in achieving their specific financial goals.

Throughout his career, Jim has been committed to continuing education. In 2012, Jim earned his Accredited Domestic Partnership Advisor (ADPA) certification.  He furthered his professional experience by earning his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER designation in 2015. A graduate of the University of Dayton, where he earned a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice and a B.A. degree in Political Science, Jim achieved his J.D. from the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville and is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association.

Jim’s mission is to guide his clients on the growth and preservation of their assets. His disciplined process begins with asking the right questions and actively listening. This information then serves as the foundation for the development of a custom strategy that reflects their lifestyle needs. Jim takes pride in being a strong advocate for his clients, helping them make important decisions towards establishing  a comfortable retirement and lasting legacy.

Jim is an avid golfer and enjoys live music. He and his wife, Brooke, currently live in Prospect with their two children, Graham and Lindy.

A native of Louisville, Graham joined The Liberty Group in 2015 as a Financial Advisor. He works closely with Jim and the other members of the team to enhance existing client relationships and build new business opportunities through social media and other marketing activities.

Graham is a proud graduate of The University of Kentucky where he earned a B.S. degree in Accounting. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Graham was a Senior Associate within KPMG’s audit practice for five years where he worked directly with public companies in providing them with tailored financial statement reviews, as well as industry insights and valuable perspectives on relevant business issues. Graham holds the FINRA series 7 and 66 registrations.

A member of the Young Professionals Association of Louisville and the University of Kentucky Young Alumni Association, Graham enjoys golf, traveling and spending time with family and friends in his free time.

About Don Kohler

Don Kohler
Vice President
Wealth Management Associate

Don is a Vice President and Wealth Management Associate at The Liberty Group at Morgan Stanley. With more than 25 years of industry experience, Don's extensive knowledge and comprehensive skills in banking and lending compliment Jim and Graham's investment experience to help ensure every client receives comprehensive wealth management on both sides of the balance sheet (assets and liabilities).

With a B.A. degree in Economics from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Don began his career at J.P. Morgan Chase in 1987. Over the years, he has held a number of important roles, including 16 years as a Private Banker. He joined Morgan Stanley in 2009 for the opportunity to build more personal relationships with clients and to share his experience in banking and lending solutions.

Originally from Louisville, Don currently lives in Prospect with his wife, Ann, and their son, Don III.  He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Louisville Orchestra and is a sports director for the CSAA of Louisville. Don previously served as a volunteer for Junior Achievement of Louisville, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Ballard High School Alumni Association and Kenwood Optimist Club. In his free time, he enjoys live music, traveling and golf and spending quality time with friends and family.

About Tess Montgomery

With 20 years of industry experience, Tess is a Portfolio Associate with The Liberty Group.  Her responsibilities include managing the team's administrative and operational activities, with the primary focus of client service and handling the team's day-to-day workflow.  

Tess began her career at a municipal bond firm in Kansas City, MO, where she is from.  Since then she has worked on the retail side of the business as a client service associate and operations associate.  She has also had the opportunity of working on the wholesale side of the business as an internal wholesaler selling variable annuities and life insurance.  Tess holds her Series 7 and 66 FINRA registrations as well as life and health insurance licenses.

Tess and her husband, Bobby, currently live in Prospect with their two dogs, Olive and Shirley.  Away from the office, Tess enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and curling up with a good book.
