With decades of experience behind us, we understand not only the challenges of wealth, but how to address the specific concerns of families who have accumulated or inherited significant wealth.

We pride ourselves on making sure we have the depth and breadth of expertise to help your family successfully maintain wealth across multiple generations. As your family grows and evolves, not only does your financial strategy become more complex, but your options for implementing it increase as well. Whether you’re planning for just your immediate family’s needs or several generations down the line, we offer legacy planning with sophisticated insight to help you with multi-generational and extended family circumstances.
Some of the areas where we apply our knowledge and experience on your behalf:
  • Investment Management. You can rely on us to design holistic and strategic financial plans that match your family’s goals.
  • Managing Your Taxes & Liquidity needs. We’ll keep an eye on your cash flow needs as well as new investment opportunities to potentially help you reduce your taxable income as your goals and finances evolve.
  • Trust, Estate & Legacy Planning. We’ll help you implement the plan created by your legal and tax advisors.
  • Retirement Planning. We will help you develop and implement a strategy that encompasses your needs before, during and after you retire and is based on your personal vision of retirement.
  • Education Planning & Family Concerns. We’ll make a plan for the education and well-being of your children or grandchildren, as well as your parents or other relatives who might need assistance now or in the future.
  • Philanthropic Services. One of the most important services we offer is to assist you in translating your family legacies and personal values into results-oriented, strategic giving programs.
  • Executive Compensation Analysis
  • Insurance Review/Planning
Our relationship begins with an in-depth process of discovering your current financial situation as well as your goals and dreams for the future. We’ve created our own Discovery Guide to lead us through our first few conversations together, touching on topics such as:
Your purpose and goals
The relationships, affiliations and causes you care about
Your financial history and your current financial situation
Your attitudes and preferences about investing
Steps you’ve taken to protect yourself and your family against major losses
Tax strategies that you’ve put in place
Your priorities for estate and legacy planning
We listen deeply to you. Are you worried about the future or is there an immediate concern that needs to be resolved? It’s our job to lift the financial burden from your shoulders so you can focus on the things that are most important to you.

We will also consider factors that might influence your overall investment strategy, such as your tolerance for risk, tax concerns, liquidity needs and time horizon. At the end of the initial discovery phase, we’ll recommend an ideal asset allocation model for you to consider.

But the discovery process really never stops. Life has a funny way of throwing a curve in the road when you’re least expecting it. We’ll be there to help when you are changing locations or jobs, entering or exiting a relationship, making choices about your children or grandchildren’s education, grieving the loss of a loved one, or helping a family member through a rough time. Whatever the situation, we’ll be there to help you discover a solution.
Whether your goal is wealth creation, wealth preservation, wealth transfer, or help with spending/funding needs, we draw on our considerable knowledge and experience, as well as the resources available through Morgan Stanley, to achieve your objectives.

We are product agnostic, which means that the choices of investment vehicles we recommend are driven by your goals and by the potential for risk adjusted return. We prefer to select the best in breed in making investment recommendations and therefore we do not highlight or focus on any given source, either internal or external. We are however constrained in selections of outside managers in that they have to pass Morgan Stanley rigorous standards of research before they can be recommended. The same applies in the alternative investment area. We recommend individual stock and bond portfolios, index investments, mutual funds and alternative investments and private equity investments where appropriate.

We often find that individual Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs) can be more cost effective and tax efficient that can mutual funds. The investment dollars we recommend to be allocated to a particular sector depends on the complexity and tax status of your account.

An important part of the process is coordination of our financial planning and portfolio implementation with the other professionals with whom you work such as CPAs and estate planning attorneys.

Meet The Leifer Group

About David Leifer

As a Senior Vice President and Financial Advisor, I serve the financial needs of affluent individuals and their families. For more than three decades, I have proactively engaged my clients in conversations about all aspects of their life that may impact their finances and then tailored investment solutions to meet those needs.

After graduating from Brooklyn College, I deferred my law school admission in Boston and joined the Peace Corp, serving in a rural site in India. I traveled extensively in Europe before returning to the States to raise a family while working during the day and attending NYU Stern School of Business at night. I had the pleasure of taking a course with a renowned NYU professor and creator of the Z score model for bankruptcy prediction. While I began my studies with a goal of an MBA in management, I became enthralled with finance and quickly changed direction to focus on finance.

I started to apply sound financial principles in my role as sales and project manager at a privately owned firm and though successful, felt that the world of finance offered greater opportunities for me and my young family. I left the firm after a 15-year career to begin a new career as a Financial Advisor at EF Hutton. I am proud that among my first clients was the pension plan of the firm where I had worked for the prior 15 years. Suppliers and customers from my old employer, their children and grandchildren are still clients today.

I am proud to work at Morgan Stanley with my son and business partner, Eric Leifer. Together, we have built an accomplished team of Advisors and staff who serve our clientele with dedication and focus. Our business has grown one relationship at a time, built on our commitment to personal service and putting our clients first.

1Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
