About Yangchen D. Lama
Yangchen “YC” Lama is a distinguished financial executive and wealth advisor with over two decades of leadership across investment management, public finance, and global philanthropy. As Managing Director of Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley in Beverly Hills, she with her team advises a highly selective group of ultra-high-net-worth families, managing more than $700 million in assets as of May 2025. Lama focuses on personalized, multi-generational strategies for clients across entertainment, technology, and family office sectors.
Known for her discretion, long-term vision, and ethical responsibility, Lama is deeply connected within the global high-net-worth community. She brings deep knowledge in shaping enduring financial and philanthropic impact across generations and has advised both individuals and institutions to preserve and align capital with values.
Before joining Morgan Stanley, Lama held senior roles in public finance, including managing a $12 billion annual budget and financial plan for the New York City Department of Education under Mayor Michael Bloomberg. She also served in financial leadership at top-tier universities such as the University of Southern California and New York University, overseeing budgeting, capital planning, and cash flow operations.
Beyond her executive leadership, Lama is a trusted advisor and board member for numerous influential organizations. She has served on the Morgan Stanley Financial Advisor Advisory Council and the Boards of Trustees for Antioch University Los Angeles and Sofia University. She currently serves on the advisory board of Cornell University’s Brooks School of Public Policy and the President’s Council of Cornell Women. Internationally, she contributes her leadership acumen and philanthropic commitment to her board role on Adara Development, a global NGO focused on health and education in underserved communities. Locally, she advocates for equity in education for students of color in the LA independent schools by serving on the Private School Axis board.
Born in a remote Himalayan village in Nepal with no electricity or running water, Lama’s extraordinary journey from humble beginnings to a leading figure in global finance is a testament to her resilience, intellect, and values-driven leadership. She earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree with a concentration in International Finance from Cornell University. She also holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Certified Portfolio Manager (CPM®) designations, with advanced training from Columbia University.
