Working With You

We use numerous tools to help implement customized plans.

Our discretionary strategies, offered through the Morgan Stanley Portfolio Group platform, range from portfolios featuring large-capitalization growth stocks with what we believe are attractive valuations, to portfolios in which we seek enhanced dividend yields and potential volatilities below that for the market.

In each strategy we select stocks using a combination of financial metrics, such as P/E ratio, free cash flow and balance sheet strength, as well as an evaluation of managements and the identification of catalysts. Analytical tools allow us to monitor industry concentrations and other portfolio characteristics, such as beta. Performance is measured real-time. We also construct bond ladders and other fixed income portfolios to compliment equity strategies and to help meet the individual income goals and risk preferences of our clients.

We are committed to customization and will work to ensure that your preferences are reflected in the composition of your portfolio. Tell us about a special tax issue and we’ll work with you and your tax adviser to help solve it. If there are stocks you’d like to avoid, for any reason, we’ll attempt to identify suitable substitutes.

Some of our clients prefer non-discretionary programs in which we help them structure portfolios, carefully evaluating their short- and long-term objectives and risk tolerance. We’ll look at asset correlations to balance potential returns against risk. Moreover, we often recommend, when it best suits the client, one or more outside managers that are selected for Morgan Stanley’s platform following rigorous analysis by the firm’s Consulting Group. We add our own overlay to manager evaluation by looking at historical returns, volatility, Sharpe ratios and other important metrics.

Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. 9An investment in an exchange-traded fund (ETF) involves risks similar to those of investing in a broadly based portfolio of equity securities traded on exchange in the relevant securities market, such as market fluctuations caused by such factors as economic and political developments, changes in interest rates and perceived trends in stock prices. The investment return and principal value of ETF investments will fluctuate, so that an investor’s ETF shares, if or when sold, may be worth more or less than the original cost.

Investors should carefully consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses of an exchange-traded fund (ETF) before investing. The prospectus contains this and other information about the ETF. To obtain a prospectus, contact your Financial Advisor or visit the ETF company’s website.
