Our Planning Process

At The Kelley Group we believe firmly in the need for a quality and comprehensive financial plan. Not only does the planning process provide you with a clear path forward to your goals, but it also provides us with the opportunity to get to know each of our clients, their personalities, and the things that make their situations unique. We offer financial planning services to all of our clients and prospective clients at no cost other than the investment of some time. In general, there are 4 steps to our process

    Icon Image
Step 1: Review Your Current Financial Situation

In this first step we will look at your current financial situation with regards to your income, savings, living expenses, and debts. Much like a doctor needs an X-ray or MRI to make a proper diagnosis, a full review of your current financial life gives us the visibility we need to make necessary recommendations unique to you.

    Icon Image
Step 2: Determining Your Financial Goals

The purpose of this step is to determine your needs and wants. Your goals can range from having enough for retirement, funding college, transfer of wealth, buying a home or developing an investment program to increase financial security.

    Icon Image
Step 3: Creation Of A Plan and Implementation

In this step we will combine what we learned in Step 1 and where you'd like to go from Step 2 and develop action items to help get you there. These could range anywhere from setting up a new savings plan or updating your investment portfolio to getting you in contact with an insurance specialist or private banker to meet more specific needs.

    Icon Image
Step 4: Ongoing Review Of The Plan

When we create a plan, we don't deliver our findings and action steps to you and say "see you in 5 or 10 years, hope it works out". A lot can happen in life between when we initially put a plan together and when the ultimate goal is reached. These changes must be accounted for. We like to say that financial plans are living-breathing documents that are dynamic and track changes as they occur allowing us to adjust course when necessary and make sure we're staying on track to reach your goals. Regular check-ins each year will allow us to keep your plan up to date.

5Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
