What Sets Us Apart

We enjoy working with individuals and families who seek the same type of long-term, fully-engaged relationships we value and who appreciate the following attributes we believe set us apart from other advisory teams.
    Icon Image
    Deep and Caring Relationships
The most important part of our job is getting to know the person behind the portfolio. We concentrate on building enduring relationships, so we may fully understand you and your family. This leads us to recommend solutions that are designed to not only achieve your financial goals, but are reflective of who you are and where you want to go.
    Icon Image
    Extensive Experience
The diversity of our backgrounds enables us to deliver fresh ideas for today’s complex world. We believe in financial planning and Steve and Jeffrey have both earned the Certified Financial PlannerTM designation, the industry standard for comprehensive planning. Jeffrey also holds the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor designation. Together, we have more than 50 years of industry experience. We use our analytical skills to evaluate and recommend appropriate strategies. Our priority is to be your first call for any financial matter – no matter how simple or complex the situation.
    Icon Image
We Have a Process For That
The words “standard operating procedure” or “SOP”, for short, are part of our vernacular. Everything about our practice is structured and process-driven. We owe that to Jeffrey’s eight years of service in the Marines. We run a tight ship to help ensure your goals are accomplished on time and as planned.
    Icon Image
    Financial Education
Financial education is a vital element of our practice and helps ensure continuity as wealth moves from one generation to the next. We believe it is our responsibility to provide the knowledge and information needed to make informed and confident decisions. We are here to answer critical questions that may impact the long-term wealth of your extended family.
    Icon Image
    Teamwork
To gain the precise knowledge needed to manage all aspects of your wealth, we work closely with your accountant and estate planning attorney. Where appropriate, we consult with our network of specialists within Morgan Stanley and across the industry to evaluate your unique challenges and devise specific recommendations.
    Icon Image
    Proactive Service
We keep you focused on your finances by proactively scheduling regular calls with a detailed agenda. These conversations are our time to discuss updates in your life, questions you may have about the market or timely information about your portfolio. We believe it is our responsibility to always be in sync with the changes in your life, so we can respond strategically to new risks and opportunities. The result is an integrated financial strategy that focuses on meeting your goals today and as they evolve over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

You’ve Got Questions, We’ve Got Answers
  • As your life and career evolve, so do your goals. We help answer your critical financial questions and adapt your strategy to meet your changing needs. Here are just some of the questions we help our clients answers every day.
  • Life is constantly changing. How do I prepare for a more secure future, knowing that certain events can impact my plans?
  • How do I invest for the future, but have the cash on hand I need for today?
  • What is the best way to generate income from my investments?
  • Have I saved enough for retirement so I can maintain my current lifestyle?
  • Will I be able to send my children to the colleges of their choice, while being able to save for other long-term goals?

  • What happens to the management of my assets, should I become incapacitated?
  • Making sure my estate goes to the people and organizations I care about is important to me. How do I leave a lasting legacy?

Achieving Your Goals

Our goals-based process begins and ends with listening. We ask questions about the values that shape your decisions and the vision you have for your future . . . and then we listen. Through each step, we provide objective advice and investment insights to construct a wealth management plan that is uniquely yours.
    1. Initial Conversation
We begin with an introductory call to understand your immediate concerns. We share information about who we are, what we do and how we do it. If we agree to move forward, we will schedule a discovery meeting to discuss your situation in greater detail.
    2. Discovery
We continue our dialogue, learning about the values that shape your decisions and identifying any challenges or circumstances unique to your situation. We’ll also help you articulate and prioritize your short-, medium- and long-range goals.
    3. Information Gathering
Next, we collect important financial documents so we can review your current and future financial situation. In this step, we may also reach out to your CPA and estate attorney to understand your existing tax and estate plans so we can coordinate our strategies into one cohesive plan.
    4. Analysis and Plan Development
Here, we prepare a detailed analysis of your situation so we can develop a complementary financial plan and investment portfolio specifically for you. As Portfolio Managers at Morgan Stanley, we have the skills and experience to build a custom portfolio that reflects your goals, timeframes and risk level. Your plan is designed to address all your objectives – from liability planning and lending services to retirement income strategies and estate, trust and philanthropic solutions – in one comprehensive package.
    5. Presentation and Implementation
In this step, we present your plan in detail and explain why we are recommending each strategy. We discuss the pros and cons for each solution, refining your plan based on our discussions. Once approved by you, we begin to implement the strategies together. We believe in full transparency and will keep you involved each step of the journey.
    6. Ongoing Stewardship
We diligently oversee your progress and review the performance of your plan through ongoing calls and meetings, based on a communication strategy that works for you. We may recommend adjustments over time, due to changing market conditions or changes in your personal circumstances, to keep you on track towards achieving your goals.

Meet The Kaufman Millikin Group

About Steve Kaufman

Steve brings a lifetime of experience to his role as a wealth management professional. As a Certified Financial Planner, Portfolio Manager and co-founder of The Kaufman Millikin Group, Steve has dedicated his career to providing personalized financial advice through a disciplined process. He enjoys educating and advising clients on how to make informed and confident decisions about their wealth. For Steve, professional success is measured in terms of client well-being and goal achievement.

Growing up in Parsippany, NJ, Steve was raised by two-hard working parents who ran a successful business in a nearby town. They worked long days and even longer weeks. Their dedication to their customers – treating everyone like family – was a principle that would become Steve’s “North Star” as he graduated from Fairleigh Dickenson University and moved to Florida. He began his career at Halpert, Oberst and Company, a municipal bond brokerage company located in Hallandale. The next 40+ years were filled with new and expanding opportunities that took Steve to such firms as Prudential Securities, Smith Barney and Merrill Lynch. He joined Morgan Stanley in 2019 and has been an invaluable member of the firm ever since.

For over 40 years, Steve has worked in the financial industry, building a successful practice and advising families on how to better understand and manage their total financial picture. His process begins with asking the right questions and listening carefully to deeply understand each client’s goals, values and circumstances. This information then serves as the foundation of a customized plan and investment portfolio. Steve enjoys educating clients so they can do more with their wealth now, while strengthening their long-term financial security.

Steve believes balance is vital to a happy life. He and his wife, Denise, have been married since 1991 and live in the same house they purchased over 30 years ago. They have three sons, Jacob, Joshua and Luke. Outside of the office, Steve loves to stay active. Favorite activities include pickleball, clay shooting, working out and training for half-marathons. He and Denise travel regularly across the country to participate in the marathon circuit. They also love to spend time enjoying the tranquility of their lake home in Lake Placid, Florida.
