Working With You

Who is watching over your retirement? Helping you build an investment portfolio that you hope might cover your needs down the road isn’t a substitute for a retirement plan. Call or email us and get advice that goes beyond investments. A new standard for retirement planning

There is a process that we follow for each new addition to our practice- The initial meeting is always about discovery.  Without knowing as much as we can about you, it is nearly impossible to create an appropriate plan, so we will be asking questions, collecting statements, and assigning homework.

The next meeting will involve a presentation of the plan.  This is interactive and will be presented electronically so that changes can be made as the discussion happens.  Once finished we will have a plan in place that dictates, among other things, investment policy and estate strategies.  At this point we will establish a plan of contact moving forward, whether that means monthly, quarterly or annually, we will meet you where you are and work with your preferences.

    About Me

I grew up in a family with a military background and early on I was shown what self-discipline, sacrifice and perseverance looked like.  After college, I joined the Army and spent the next 11 years developing these same character traits both domestically and on multiple deployments.  When I was told that I was no longer physically capable of soldiering, I wanted a career that would also center on service to others.  Joining the financial services industry in August of 2007 at the beginning of the financial crisis, I quickly realized that there were a lot of people unhappy with investing and angry with Wall Street.  It was a trial by fire that I was able to pass, albeit with a few scars.  I decided in 2016 that I missed the leadership role I had in the Army, and I decided to pursue management.  In March 2016 I moved from McKinney, Texas to Virginia Beach, Virginia in order to be able to do the two things I loved most - help clients with their financial needs, and lead, coach and help other advisors excel in the building and management of their practices.

I have a wonderful, funny, assertive, radiant wife, Courtney, whom I have been lucky enough to keep around for the past 15 years.  I have a brilliant, happy, imaginative 8 year old named John-Wesley who happens to have Autism Spectrum Disorder which is, in fact, not a disorder at all.  I also have a smart, clever and articulate 5 year old, Liam, who believes I am not only the biggest man in the world, but also the strongest.  I refuse to disabuse him of this notion.  Our favorite pastime is Monopoly and deciding what superpowers we have.

5Fixed Income investing entails credit risks and interest rate risks. When interest rates rise, bond prices generally fall.

6CDs are insured by the FDIC, an independent agency of the U.S. Government, up to a maximum of $250,000 (including principal and accrued interest) for all deposits held in the same insurable capacity (e.g. individual account, joint account, IRA etc.) per CD depository. Investors are responsible for monitoring the total amount held with each CD depository. All deposits at a single depository held in the same insurable capacity will be aggregated for the purposes of the applicable FDIC insurance limit, including deposits (such as bank accounts) maintained directly with the depository and CDs of the depository.

7Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
