Our Story

With over one hundred years of combined experience in this business, The Groce and Oakley Wealth Management Group at Morgan Stanley has advised executives, professionals, and business owners on how to help manage, preserve, and transfer wealth to successive generations. Over that period of time, the one constant we have seen is change. Change brought about not only in the dynamics and risk associated with the markets and economy, but also in the decisions and challenges that our clients face. A necessary and critical part of our approach is to grow and continue to develop our skills as advisors in order to address our clients' changing needs.

We are big picture thinkers and help find creative strategies to some of our client’s most pressing challenges – those that go beyond their portfolio’s performance:
• How to preserve their hard-earned assets in the face of volatile markets
• How to exit the business that has taken them a lifetime to build
• How to leave a meaningful legacy to heirs, while preparing them to accept the responsibilities that wealth entails.

"The investor's chief problem- and his worst enemy- is likely to be himself.
In the end, how your investments behave is much less important than how you behave." Benjamin Graham

Since that time, he has met the rigorous criteria required to become a Morgan Stanley designated Portfolio Management Director, providing high level discretionary management services for our clients through a variety of proprietary portfolio strategies.
• Lawrence is a designated Alternative Investment Director, a specialized program developed for advisors experienced in Alternative Investments. This accolade has afforded The Groce and Oakley Group access to expansive resources and professionals to bring leading opportunities to their clients. We are well-versed in these products as we evaluate and integrate them regularly into our clients’ portfolios.
• Lawrence is a Family Wealth Director, one of the designations of which we are most proud. Working With You

Discovery

Before we make specific recommendations, we take the time to understand who you are as a person, as well as an investor, and what you really hope to achieve for yourself and your family. That means an in-depth discussion of your current finances, future objectives, attitude toward risk and other circumstances that might assist us in developing a customized plan.

Formulation

We analyze your input and develop a formal financial plan that contains specific recommendations designed to help meet the objectives you established. Recommendations may encompass such varied disciplines as retirement planning, liability management, executive compensation issues, business succession and wealth transfer. Importantly, your plan contains a customized asset allocation based on your total finances, including accounts held at other firms.

Implementation

After presenting your plan to you, we work closely with you to bring it to life. That often involves consultation with your attorney, accountant and other advisors. And it will also involve the development of an investment strategy to execute the asset allocation created for you in the Formulation phase of our process.

Evaluation

As you would expect, we believe that ongoing communication is a vital component of our business. We strive to keep abreast of your changing financial needs and provide viable solutions to meet them. This means monitoring of your plan and portfolio to help make certain your assets are positioned to meet your changing circumstances, as well as fluctuating market conditions.

Meet The Groce & Oakley Wealth Management Group

About Larry Groce

Larry began his career as a CPA but after practicing for over a decade, he realized that he wanted to help people shape their futures, not just review their pasts. As a Financial Advisor at EF Hutton and a Financial Advisor and producing Branch Manager at JC Bradford and its successor firms, PaineWebber and UBS, Larry fulfilled his ambition. When he joined Morgan Stanley in 2008, he was an accomplished investment manager who had already created several of the proprietary models that The Groce & Oakley Wealth Management Group uses with clients today.

Larry is a Senior Vice President, Financial Advisor, Portfolio Management Director, and Senior Investment Management Consultant and principal partner of The Groce & Oakley Wealth Management Group. Larry manages nine distinct portfolios for clients with approaches that range from moderate to aggressive. He believes that by managing his clients’ portfolios, he gains a greater understanding of who they are and what’s really important to them. He also believes that his hands-on approach better enables him to help control investment risk. Larry and Lawrence formed the Groce and Oakley Wealth Management Group in 2014. Together they are able to provide clients with discretionary investment management and comprehensive wealth management that encompasses other non-investment disciplines such as wealth transfer, liability management and business succession planning.

A graduate of Troy University, Larry holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and is an inductee to the Troy University School of Accounting Hall of Honor. In his professional career, Larry has continued his education to meet the increasingly complex demands of affluent clients and their families. Like his partner Lawrence, he has earned the prestigious Certified Financial Planner® designation that enables him to approach his clients holistically and provide them with counsel that considers every aspect of their finances.

Larry is a native Alabamian who has lived in the Montgomery area for most of his adult life and has held numerous leadership roles within organizations that continue to uplift and enhance the Montgomery economy. He is the former Chairman of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Chamber’s Executive Board for six years prior to assuming that post. Larry was prestigiously named Troy University’s Alumni of the Year and is past president of the Troy University National Alumni Association. Larry is currently a member of the Montgomery Area Committee of 100. He is a devoted member and supporter of the United Way, and has been for quite some time.

Larry resides in Montgomery with his wife Sue. They have one grown son and two grandchildren, who also live in Montgomery. In his free time, Larry enjoys boating and is an avid sportsman.

About Hunter Groce

Hunter joined The Groce and Oakley Wealth Management Group in 2016 as a Financial Advisor, but began his career as an Information Security Specialist with Alfa Mutual Insurance. About Reid Fields

One of our newest members to the group, Reid serves as Groce and Oakley’s insurance professional, as well as a Financial Advisor , bringing an elevated level of knowledge, experience in insurance, annuities, and fixed income to the team.
Very early in his career, Reid personally experienced the impact that poor financial planning can have on an entire family. He decided to dedicate his profession to helping people fully understand their financial picture and to recognize that insurance can play a big part in an individual’s long-term retirement strategy.
Reid began his career in 2002 at MetLife as an advisor, eventually becoming an agency director. His ability as manager earned Reid the highest leadership award in the company. His passion, however, was most deeply rooted in serving clients. He transitioned to BBVA Compass where he served the entire River Region, specializing in fixed income with an emphasis on financial planning.
In 2020 Reid joined The Groce and Oakley Group with Morgan Stanley, excited to offer his clients the resources and access from one of the largest, most established wealth management businesses in the industry.
Reid’s robust experience in the industry has proven to be a valuable asset in his wealth management career at Morgan Stanley. He has recently earned his Insurance Planning Director (IPD) designation, demonstrating his commitment to, and understanding of, holistic goals-based wealth management planning through the incorporation of insurance solutions into the Groce and Oakley Wealth Management’s practice as a foundational component of risk management.

About Hannah Hensley

Hannah joined the Groce and Oakley Group as Financial Advisor in 2020 but spent most of her early career in banking. Service is Hannah’s business. She began her professional career at BBVA/Compass Bank (now PNC) about 20 years ago, where she navigated her way through every position in the banking business; from teller, to sales representative, to private retail banking, and up through management. Hannah was number one in consumer lending while at BBVA and received top licensed banking employee during her tenure, among numerous other professional awards. Although her most recent position was in branch management, her position as retail relationship manager enabled her to work more directly with individual clients to develop unique and creative solutions. It was this experience that inspired her passion to develop deeper client relationships and to seek a new path in wealth management as a financial advisor.

Hannah’s passion for service and robust experience in the banking industry makes her a valuable addition to the Groce and Oakley Team. A core part of Hannah’s approach to wealth management is to help clients integrate their day-to-day financial needs with their long-term investment ambitions. Her goal? To give her clients the confidence, resources, and knowledge to help them reach their goals.
Hannah loves spending time with her family; she has 2 children – Ansley and Jake – who motivate and inspire her to help other individuals and families with many moving parts and goals. Hannah enjoys traveling and she loves a good boot camp or session at the gym – personal health plays as important of a role in her life as her financial health and wellbeing.

6Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.

7Alternative Investments are speculative and include a high degree of risk. An investor could lose all or a substantial amount of his/her investment. Alternative investments are appropriate only for qualified, long-term investors who are willing to forgo liquidity and put capital at risk for an indefinite period of time.
