    About Me

    Doug is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional and founding partner of the Gold Coast Group at Morgan Stanley.  For more than 15 years, Doug has been providing highly customized advice, investment solutions and financial planning services to financially successful individuals, accomplished professionals, retirees and business owners.  Doug delivers objective advice through exceptional “high touch” client service to the individuals and families he proudly serves. He focuses on developing financial strategies for his clients that are well suited to meeting their specific wealth management needs, whether they are planning for retirement or college education, buying a new home, managing debt or insuring their family legacy. His clients appreciate his approachable style for helping them make well-informed decisions and maintaining the discipline necessary to navigate the most challenging of markets. He takes pride in helping them oversee and manage their finances, so they can take care of the people they love, spend more time pursuing the activities they enjoy and support the causes that are most important to them.

    Doug earned his B.S. degree in Engineering and M.B.A. degree with a concentration in Finance and Accounting from Cornell University.  As an NROTC program graduate, he served in the U.S. Navy on active duty for four years as the navigator on a destroyer.  Doug’s military experience had a profound impact on his life, teaching him many life lessons as a young man. He developed strong values of duty, honor and integrity.

    After graduate school, Doug began a 20-year long successful civilian career. He worked for a number of companies, large and small, public and private, across a broad range of industries. He held a number of key leadership roles in finance, operations and sales management, and traveled extensively all over the globe. During that time, Doug began building and managing his own investment portfolio, an avocation he thoroughly enjoyed and one, as it turned out, he was quite successful at doing. In 2002, Doug joined Morgan Stanley and began sharing his knowledge and experience with his own clients as they plan for their financial futures. He partnered with Cindy Vavrik in 2006 to establish the Gold Coast Group at Morgan Stanley.

    Originally from the San Francisco Bay area, Doug now lives in Palos Hills, IL.  Upon leaving active duty in 1978, he maintained his affiliation with the Navy as an active member of the Naval Reserve for over 20 years, retiring as a Navy Captain in 1999. Today, Doug is involved with his alma mater as a member of the Cornell Club of Chicago, the Johnson School (Business) Club of Chicago and a volunteer fundraiser for the Cornell annual fund. Doug is also a member of the Association of Professional Investment Consultants at Morgan Stanley and a member of the Investment Management Consultants Associations (IMCA). In his leisure time, he enjoys playing golf, collecting and tasting wine, and travelling.

    About Me

    Cindy is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and founding partner of the Gold Coast Group at Morgan Stanley.   She provides customized advice and investment solutions to financially successful professionals, retirees and business owners in the Chicago area and across the country. A seasoned professional with more than 25 years of industry experience, Cindy is dedicated to helping her clients achieve their financial goals, so they may attain the financial freedom to pursue their passions and enjoy the wealth they’ve created.

    A graduate of Illinois State University, Cindy served as a Vice President at First National Bank of Chicago and Citibank Private Bank, where she spent more than 17 years meeting the private banking needs of national and global law firms and their senior partners. In 2000, she joined Stein Roe Investment Counsel as Vice President of Business Development, where she managed investment portfolios for attorneys and CPAs and their clients. She became a member of the Morgan Stanley family in 2003. Cindy earned her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM (CFP®) designation from The College for Financial Planning in 1992.

    This collective experience has given Cindy a diverse set of skills in private banking, investment management and financial planning. She joined Morgan Stanley family to share her financial planning and investment experience with individuals and families and to build more personal relationships with her clients. She partnered with Doug Fitzgerald in 2006 to establish The Gold Coast Group at Morgan Stanley, and has been a member of the firm’s Association of Professional Investment Consultants since 2013.

    As a Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley, Cindy takes pride in her ability to put advanced concepts into action and effectively communicate these concepts to her clients. Her ultimate mission is to guide her clients on the growth and preservation of their assets, while providing for current income and cash flow needs. Her comprehensive approach is focused on articulating each client’s needs, wants and wishes. This information then serves as the foundation for the development and implementation of a custom financial strategy that can be easily adapted to respond to life changes and market activity.

    Originally from St. Louis, Cindy and her husband, Michael, currently reside in Frankfort, IL. They have three daughters, Carly, Katelyn and Grace, and two granddaughters, Stevie and Zoe. Cindy is actively involved in school activities, serving on the school organization board last year. She is a member of the Financial Women’s Association and the Illinois CPA Society and is an affiliated member of the Chicago Bar Association. Cindy is also currently on the Board of the “Something for Kelly Foundation,” a non-for-profit organization focused on ending eating disorders with children ages 6-12. When Cindy is not working directly with her clients, she enjoys outdoor sports, such as running, biking and golfing, as well as vacationing with family and friends.
