    Meet The Garbo/Rule Group

    About Me

    A Jackson native, John brings 32 years of financial services experience to the team and currently serves as First Vice President of The Garbo/Rule Group. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University and also attended the prestigious Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed the Financial Consultants Certification program. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley in 2008, John spent the first 25 years of his career as financial advisor with Merrill Lynch.

    John and his wife, Candon, have been married for 33 years and are the proud parents of four children—daughters Camille and Alexandria and sons Barron and Hill. When away from the office John enjoys traveling and spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.

    About Me

    Originally from Jackson, Doug grew up in Starkville and is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance. He also had the privilege of attending the Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University. Doug began his career in the banking industry, but eventually took an interest in public service and went on to spend eight years as Deputy State Treasurer for the state of Mississippi. He ultimately made the transition to financial services, joining Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor in 1997.

    Along with partner John Garbo, Doug made the move to Morgan Stanley in 2008. The two have been partners for 18 years now, with Doug serving as Vice President of The Garbo/Rule Group. He has also held the title of Branch Manager of the Morgan Stanley Ridgeland office since 2016.

    Doug and his wife, Olive, live in Ridgeland and have two children attending Ole Miss—son Wesley and daughter Olivia. Away from the office, Doug is very active with his church—First Baptist Church of Jackson—where he has served in a number of roles over the years, including as Chairman of the Deacons in 2017.

    About Me

    A 31-year veteran of the financial services industry, Barbara currently serves as Registered Associate for The Garbo Rule Group.  Barbara attended Louisiana State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting. She began her career in 1984 as a Sales Assistant with Bear, Stearns and Co., eventually moving to New York City to work on Wall Street for a few years before relocating to Dallas in 1993.

    Barbara relocated to the Jackson area in 2018, and rejoined Morgan Stanleyshe worked as a Client Service Associate in the firm's Dallas complex from 2004-2011. Over the course of her career Barbara has gained extensive experience in serving the needs of high net worth clients. She is often the first point of contact for clients calling in with questions about their accounts and also assists with various administrative tasks, such as transfers, client onboarding and ensuring that cash management, money transfers and distribution requests are accomplished.

    During her time away from the office, Barbara enjoys cooking, gardening, reading, and swimming.
