About Us

For over 30 years, Mike Kakassy, Cheryl Crowe and Andy Valentine have worked in the financial industry as the Kakassy/ Valentine Group. In 2015, they invited Brett Lewis, with his 15 years’ experience, to join them as Founders of The Franklin Heritage Group. This provided an opportunity to give our clients access to a wide range of talent and experience serving them and their families.

Andy provides a strong commitment to financial planning and long term investing. His role on the team is Strategic Planning for business exits, wealth transfers through estate planning strategies, charitable giving and tax advantaged investing. He works closely with the accounting and legal professionals on your team to assist you in making informed financial decisions.

Mike’s tenure of more than three decades includes wealth management strategies concentrating on portfolio management and financial planning. His focus is technical and fundamental research for equity trading. Mike also works on client development.

Brett focuses on Technical Analysis. He provides allocation strategies and research, executing the trades for models he designed. While he utilizes strategic planning to help achieve client’s long-term goals, he does not take the conventional view that a buy-and-hold strategy alone may achieve these objectives. Brett‘s investment process focuses on daily Tactical management of our client accounts.

Cheryl worked as Trust Officer and Vice President of Cumberland Trust Company in Franklin. During that time, she served as CFO of her family’s business. She is a fully registered Financial Advisor and worked at Prudential Securities as a Financial Advisor. Prior to this, Cheryl worked with the IRS in Nashville. She is skilled at administering the complex regulations of our industry, providing personal service for the needs and requests of our clients.

We look forward to working with you and your family.

Technical analysis is the study of past price and volume trends of a security in an attempt to predict the security's future price and volume trends. Its limitations include but are not limited to: the lack of fundamental analysis of a security's financial condition, lack of analysis of macro economic trend forecasts, the bias of the technician's view and the possibility that past participants were not entirely rational in their past purchases or sales of the security being analyzed. Investors using technical analysis should consider these limitations prior to making an investment decision.

Working With You

Step 1: Discovery

We begin with an in-depth conversation to understand your goals and the goals of your family, the concerns you have and what you ultimately would like to achieve.

Step 2: Analyzing

Next, we review your current and future financial situation, identify the likelihood of reaching your goals, and help address any potential shortfalls or the impact of unexpected life events. In this step, we’ll also reach out to your CPA and estate attorney to understand your existing tax and estate plans, so we can coordinate our strategies.

Step 3: Formulating

Here, we’ll prepare a comprehensive wealth management plan, based on your individual circumstances, goals and tolerance for risk that helps address your income and cash flow needs.  We will develop customized strategies for your investments; tax planning; insurance; retirement assets; estate planning and charitable giving.

Step 4: Implementing

We will provide you a comprehensive array of strategies, services and programs that work in tandem to help grow, preserve and transfer your wealth, while remaining aligned with your personal goals and aspirations.

Step 5: Monitoring/Adjusting

Circumstances can change with family dynamics, life style and market movements.  Our process has daily investment oversight and when necessary we implement exit strategies and defensive measures as appropriate.  We oversee your progress and review your performance through ongoing calls and face-to-face meetings.

    Our Clients

Over the years we have had the opportunity to work with some truly exceptional people. Client relationships include corporate executives, skilled healthcare and technology professionals, prominent business owners, accomplished professionals in the sports and entertainment industry and individual company retirees who seek unbiased, personalized advice. Some seek to maintain their lifestyle once they retire. Others are concerned about leaving a meaningful legacy to their children without excessive taxation or family conflict. Still others want to feel confident they are on the right path.

Corporate Executives generally maintain portfolios that consist largely of their employer stock. They know they should diversify to reduce risk, but they don’t want to appear disloyal and are wary of tax consequences. In addition, they often own stock options that are subject to rules of which they may only be vaguely aware. We help them manage risk, make informed decisions and integrate their equity compensation and other corporate benefits into their overall wealth management plan.

Healthcare and Technology Professionals are typically so occupied with their work that they simply don’t have the time or inclination to focus on investments and other financial issues. Our goal is to relieve their concerns and increase their likelihood of achieving what is most important to them without infringing on time spent treating patients and creating tomorrow's technology.

Business owners are so consumed with the day-to-day management of their business, they lack the adequate time to research and plan their financial strategies. We help create and implement comprehensive wealth management plans based on their specific needs and goals. We also have conversations about secession planning, buy sell agreements and appropriate distribution of the business to family members.

Successful athletes and artists, who have excelled, show us that we need to excel as well. They require a new way of thinking about managing wealth and supporting their life ambitions. These clients are all about what’s next: next game, next tour, next venture or the next chapter of their life. We understand the complex logistics of the sports and entertainment world and can navigate the unique circumstances of each individual. We work alongside your agent, business managers and personal confidants and combine our strength with theirs to make your success last.

Clients tell us that working for an electric COOP is like working for one big family. As Portfolio Managers and Financial Advisors, we have been fortunate to work with retirees in Tennessee. Whether guaranteed income or income with growth is your primary goal, our practice has been built around servicing the needs of retirees and their families regarding their retirement planning and investment management.

      About Me

Brett Lewis is a founding member of the Franklin Heritage Group. He provides customized advice, management and planning services to successful individuals and families in Tennessee and across the country. Brett focuses on wealth planning services and portfolio allocation strategies. He is dedicated to assisting his clients in fulfilling their investment and financial goals so they can reach the financial freedom to pursue their passions.

Brett’s life began on a small family farm in Arkansas. Character, integrity and commitment to our responsibilities were molded in the early hours at the dairy barn or late hours in the hay field. At the end of the day, completion of various “chores” gave a feeling of pride and accomplishment.

Brett is able to take complex financial concepts and effectively communicate them to his clients. The best laid strategies and plans are meaningless until they are understood by the client.

Originally born in Arkansas, Brett has lived in Tennessee almost 20 years, where he met his wife, the former Cynthia Diane Lingle of Pascagoula Mississippi. They have three “spirited” children, Mary Ellen 8, Kinton James 4 and Liza Magdalene 3. In his spare time, Brett loves spending time with his family and working at their farm.

Andy’s role on your team is strategic planning of business exits, wealth transfers through estate planning strategies, charitable giving, and tax advantaged investing. He works closely with the accounting and legal professionals on your team to bring you the information necessary to help make informed financial decisions. Using the latest portfolio modeling we can design a plan to help replace your income after the sale of a business, counter the effects of inflation and taxes, and provide for future generations. It is financial preparation for a lifetime.

Andy works with Mike and Brett to make tactical decisions based on economic and market projections. Together, they implement these plans and assure the investment managers and funds are ranked among the best in their asset class.

Andy and his wife, Nancy, live on 8 acres in Brentwood where they keep sheep, chickens and bees. His time outside work is spent shepherding, riding motorcycles and playing with his grandchildren. Andy has served as President of the Board at the Nashville Opera Association, President of the Board for Belmont University Friends of the Arts and Senior Warden for Saint Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church.
