About John Mongold
Over the course of 25 years, John Mongold has built a career defined by continuous learning, real-world experience, and a deep commitment to serving clients. His journey began in government contracting, where he helped build tax and revenue systems. That early experience led to a role at a tech startup, where he saw firsthand the challenges and opportunities entrepreneurs face as they build and scale businesses – an experience that continues to inform his work with founders and executives today.
A connection with his grandfathers sparked his interest in personal finance. Motivated by a desire to deepen his financial experience, John spent a decade on Wall Street trading floors, gaining a rigorous firsthand understanding of markets and investments. Realizing that technical market knowledge alone wasn’t enough to serve clients holistically, he pursued an MBA with a focus on accounting and tax, equipping him with the knowledge to help address the full spectrum of client needs.
Since then, John has worked with ultra-high-net-worth families, entrepreneurs, and executives – particularly in the tech and government contracting sectors – guiding them through complex financial events and decisions. He has served both as portfolio manager and wealth advisors for his clients, leveraging his decades of experience. He is well-versed in retirement strategies, executive compensation, business transaction and succession planning, philanthropic planning, and trust services and estate planning strategies - bringing guidance to everything from exit planning to legacy preservation.
Today, as a Private Wealth Advisor, John brings to bear his years in technology, government-contracting, Wall Street, and wealth planning to serve clients with a singular focus: helping them build, preserve, and transition their wealth in a manner that supports not just their financial goals, but the future they envision for their families and legacies.
Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, John served as both a senior investment advisor and senior wealth advisor at Wilmington Trust. Earlier in his career, he served as managing director and head trader for Group One Trading. In addition, was an analyst at FolioFn and American Management Systems.
John serves as a Director for the Washington DC Estate Planning Council. He is also involved with the leadership of the AFCEA Belvoir chapter.
He also serves on the George Mason University Honors College advisory board and has taught finance as adjunct faculty for the George Mason University - School of Business MBA program.
John graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and holds a master’s of business administration in Accounting and Tax from Rutgers University.
He is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of Washington DC.
