Meet The DelMarVa Cornerstone Group

About Me

Kim Mason is a Senior Vice President and Founder of the DelMarVa Cornerstone Group at Morgan Stanley. Her professional credentials demonstrate a deep, holistic level of investment knowledge, a disciplined approach and an ability to create and monitor customized portfolios and investment strategies.

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER(CFP), Kim possesses in-depth knowledge of the financial planning process, tax planning, employee benefits and retirement planning, estate planning, investment management and insurance. As a Certified Portfolio Manager(CPM), she has received advanced credentials that indicate a deeper understanding of fundamental security analysis, asset allocation and portfolio management concepts for managing discretionary portfolios.  Kim is also a Portfolio Management Director – a designation which allows her to develop and manage the Group’s overall investment strategy, while carefully monitoring and communicating about every aspect of the process that impacts client discretionary portfolios.
 
Kim graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre from the International University-Europe, Bushey-Watford in Great Britain. She joined Citibank as a banking officer in 1981 and then became one of the first women financial advisors in 1982. 

Outside of work, Kim is very active in numerous professional and philanthropic organizations, many of which are listed below:

About Me

"Helping you to achieve your dreams" is her mantra. Working with you to determine the most comfortable way for you to do this is the process that works best. Financial planning and investing are not a one size fits all deal. There are many ways to achieve the same goal.

One aspect of her job is to be your coach and mentor. The best coaches work with you to emphasize your strengths and minimize your weaknesses. They also push you outside of your comfort zone to get you to your goal. The best mentors don’t tell you what to do. They are sounding boards who help you weigh the pros and cons of your course of action so that you make the best decision for you. Once you and Paula have determined your goals and comfort level, the two of you can design strategies for your goals.

Paula's love of horseback riding has helped tremendously in her work. Riding effectively is often counter-intuitive. One of the hardest lessons she still struggles with is letting go of the reins when the horse is upset. Every instinct says to hold on tight and pull back hard! To stay safe, you must gently turn the horse in a circle to slow down the pace. Investing and risk management is often counter-intuitive. She will help you learn and execute those counter-intuitive strategies such as focusing on long term growth instead of short term volatility and investing in areas that are not in the headlines.

About Me

As a Financial Advisor, it is personally rewarding to help others to achieve their financial goals. Diane began her finance career after earning her Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Marketing from Boston University and her MBA in Finance from The University of Notre Dame. She started in corporate finance, working as a Financial Analyst and Portfolio Manager.  Like many parents, she chose to take a career break to focus on her sons when they were young. During those years she worked part time and served on committees, worked at countless events and programs, and raised thousands of dollars for academic and sports organizations in Fairfax County.

Things changed when Diane’s husband, David, was diagnosed with brain cancer. When he passed, she was inspired to help protect others from facing some of the difficulties her family had experienced. She completed the Certified Financial Planner certificate program, passed the CFP Board exam, and relaunched her finance career with Morgan Stanley.  For Diane, being a financial advisor is not only a career, but it has become a life calling.

Diane understands the importance of protecting and supporting one’s family. Family has always been the center of her life, including three wonderful sons, David, Luke, and Charlie, and their dog Tiki. Beyond career and family, Diane has been an active volunteer and supporter of Life With Cancer and Race for Hope DC.

Sharon LaFever is a seasoned client relationship professional. She brings over 30 years of industry experience and knowledge to the team.  Sharon is everyone's first point of contact.  Sharon provides support in all phases of client service, relationship management, and account maintenance.  She also assists with the business activities for the DelMarVa Cornerstone Group.  She focuses on understanding clients' needs and is committed to delivering exemplary service to every client. 

Sharon holds Series 7, 63, 66, and 31 securities licenses.

Outside of the office, Sharon is an accomplished photographer.  Her love of wildlife and the outdoors shines through in the photos that she takes.  We all love seeing which pictures she has chosen for her annual calendar. 

Sharon loves spending time with her family as well as her many pets.  She devotes much of her time to caring for her father who lives with her.
