We believe that our industry has done a good job of focusing on prudent wealth management, but has been less diligent about helping investors become more comfortable talking openly about wealth. In fact, in the US, the subject seems to be culturally taboo. For many investors, discussions about money and the distribution of assets are something to be dealt with at the latest point possible, and the prevailing attitude tends to be, “It’s never too late to do that.”1 The truth is, it often is.

As a multigenerational team with a history of breaking down barriers, we enjoy facilitating conversations between generations. We know from experience that different generations have different approaches to investing and to money in general. Millennials, for example, consider the social and environmental impact of the companies they invest in to be an important part of investment decision-making. They expect real-time information delivery and use technology to stay connected. Their baby boomer parents, on the other hand, are more focused on income preservation as they move into retirement, and prefer to meet with in person.

It’s not unusual for a family to spend a great deal of time preparing the money for the family, but very little time preparing the family for the money. Our long history of working with wealthy clients allows us to easily engage with and advise your family about your plans for transitioning generational wealth. When we do this well, we can empower your family to establish a plan, integrate education on the topics of wealth transition and prepare your heirs to receive and manage assets.

Financial Planning and Insured Solutions

We focus on our clients’ well-being. That’s why our work with you centers on helping create the freedom and abundance necessary for the well-being of you and those you love. We pride ourselves on knowing you, your dreams and goals, as well as your financial concerns and the issues that keep you up at night. For us, the important questions are: What do you need your money to do for you? What has meaning for you? How can we help you to enrich your life?

With more than four decades of combined financial planning experience, as well as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) and a Financial Planning Specialist on the team, we can provide you with an unusually strong and deep set of planning strategies and knowledge.

Some of the areas where we apply our advanced knowledge on your behalf:

Investment management
Managing your tax and liquidity needs
Trust, estate and legacy planning strategies
Retirement planning
Education planning and family concerns
Philanthropic services
Insurance and long-term care

We start with your life and build a plan for your money. Financial planning is often viewed as a tool for creating wealth. We see it differently. It is meant to create a blueprint for how we live our lives.
Have You Planned for the Unexpected?
We know the importance of helping you save for your goals as part of your overall wealth plan. Part of that planning process includes a deeper discussion about how you can protect your assets and family in case the unexpected occurs. Learn more about how we can begin the conversation.

Our Women Clients

As a team founded by two women trailblazers, we particularly enjoy helping our women clients. In terms of investments, women don’t just focus on portfolio performance, but rather on progress toward reaching their own or their family’s goals.1

The statistics are amazing. More than half of women come into their marriage or relationship with financial assets equal to or greater than their spouse or partner2, and one-third of women are now the primary income earner or contribute equally to household wealth3. In addition, the number of wealthy women investors in the U.S. is growing at a faster rate than that of men. In a two-year period, the number of wealthy women in the U.S. grew 68%, while the number of men grew only 36%4.

Our group truly enjoys working with our many women clients. Whether you are a woman of unexpected wealth, a woman with new responsibilities, or an executive woman who has earned your wealth and intends to manage it closely, we enjoy helping you make choices that are both wise and meaningful.

Meet The D and L Group

About Diane M Alecci

For more than 40 years, I have blazed trails throughout the financial services industry, opening doors that were formerly closed to women. I practiced goals-based financial planning before it was a trend and I instinctively build client relationships that are based on trust. I am an excellent communicator and pride myself on finding ways to help clients understand complex financial issues. My clients often tell me:  I am always calm after talking with you.

After attending college, I started my career as the operations manager for Dean Witter. For seven years, I learned the inner workings of the back office of a financial advisory firm – knowledge that has served my clients well over the years.

As one of the most successful Financial Advisors at Merrill Lynch in 2002, I teamed up with Lynn Blanchard to form the D&L Group. As a senior woman Financial Advisor, I became a mentor to other women Advisors, inviting them to join me in sponsoring high profile events and panels. For 20 years, I passionately taught a class for adult women titled “What Every Woman Should Know About Money.” Lynn and I moved to Morgan Stanley in 2013 and brought in Glenn Fischer to round out our multigenerational team.

Throughout my career, I have been the recipient of numerous awards and honors. I have been an inductee of R.J. Shook’s Winner’s Circle for Women Financial Advisors. I was named to Barron’s Top 100 Women Financial Advisors in 2006, and to Barron’s Top 1000 Financial Advisors in 2009. I was named to the Forbes Top 200 Women Wealth Advisors in America (2017-2022) and as a Forbes Best-In-State Financial Advisor (2018-2022).  My market outlook has been featured on CNN, I have been quoted in several newspapers, and I have been featured in Family Money Magazine. Outside of work, I am very involved with the Connie Dwyer Breast Center.

About Lynn Blanchard

Since 1985, I have created custom financial plans and managed the finances of wealthy investors. My unique understanding of the complexity facing high net worth individuals and families has consistently set me apart as a trusted advisor, as well as earning me significant industry achievement awards.

After earning both a BA degree and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan, I joined Merrill Lynch, where Diane Alecci became my mentor. We co-hosted many investment events together, introducing clients to a myriad of topics. I quickly designed my practice around building custom financial plans for clients and it has remained a key element in my practice for three decades.

In 2002, Diane and I formed the D&L Group and I began teaching the class that Diane started: “What Every Woman Should Know About Money.” Providing financial education and mentoring, particularly to women, is one of my passions. I take an active role in mentoring younger members of the industry in an effort to pass down some of my knowledge and experience.

Diane and I moved the D&L Group to Morgan Stanley in 2013. As the “numbers person” on our team, I tend to take the lead on discussions around financial planning, debt management and estate planning strategies. I was named to Barron’s Top 1000 Financial Advisors in 2009. I am proud to have been named to Morgan Stanley’s Masters Club, to have been recognized as one of Forbes Top Women 200 Wealth Advisors in America (2017-2022) and to have been named as a Forbes Best-In-State Financial Advisor (2018-2022).

About Glenn Fischer

As a Financial Advisor and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®), I serve the financial needs of families and individuals, often working closely with their CPAs and attorneys. With each interaction, I proactively engage my clients in conversations about all aspects of their life that may impact their finances. My advanced study of estate planning, taxes, insurance, retirement income and investments leads to broad perspectives on strategies which I work diligently to effectively implement for each client.

After earning a BA degree in mechanical engineering from Bucknell University, I entered the Navy’s Officer Candidate School and spent the next ten years flying airplanes all over the world. I left active duty with the rank of Lieutenant Commander and enrolled in Georgetown University’s MBA program. After graduating in 2003, I became part of Booz Allen’s Financial Consulting Group, where I worked as a consultant to the newly established Department of Homeland Security shortly after the agency was formed, helping them plan and execute a $1 billion research and development budget.

In 2006, I became a Vice President at a commercial lending company specializing in providing complex financing solutions to owners and senior executives of middle market companies and private equity firms. I joined the D&L Group in 2013 and earned my CFP® designation in 2016. As a younger member of the team, I enjoy connecting with our millennial and second and third generation clients, while also studying under the mentorship of Diane Alecci and Lynn Blanchard.

Outside of work, my wife Melinda and I stay busy with our two young children. As an instrument rated private pilot, I enjoy flying down the Hudson or up the East River or flying in search of the pilot’s $100 hamburger.

2Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
