INVESTING VS. HUMAN NATURE

"Buy low, sell high". This concept applies to just about any investment opportunity. Wise investors typically seek out opportunities where an investment is selling for less than it's intrinsic value (actual worth). Unfortunately, many times in following the herd, or by allowing emotions to overrun logic, some investors might find themselves selling when they should be buying, and vice versa.

Behavioral Finance attempts to explain how financial decisions can be made, and why sometimes those decisions are not rational. A few concepts in this area, to name a few, are loss aversion, overconfidence, and experiential bias. In our experience, people tend to favor emotion over logic in decision-making on their portfolios. The application of these ideas and concepts can have a substantial impact on the investor's return and overall investing experience.

Emotions can take precedence over logic when it comes to making decisions on an investor's money. We apply our knowledge of these concepts accumulated over decades of experience to help clients. We provide a disciplined, logic based, non-emotional approach to asset management which we believe helps to deliver a quality result over time.

BRS’ role is limited to providing risk analytics to Morgan Stanley, and BRS is not acting as a broker-dealer or investment adviser nor does it provide investment advice with respect to the Report. Morgan Stanley has validated and adopted the analytical conclusions of these risk models. The analysis provided is illustrative only. Morgan Stanley cannot predict a portfolio’s risk of loss due to, among other things, changing market conditions or other unanticipated circumstances.
