What Sets Us Apart

We enjoy working with like-minded clients who seek the same kind of long-term, fully engaged relationships we value and who appreciate the following attributes we believe set us apart from other advisory teams.
    Icon Image
    Caring Relationships
The most important part of our job is getting to know the person behind the portfolio. We concentrate on building deep and caring relationships, so we can fully understand you and your family. This leads us to recommend solutions that are designed to not only reach your financial goals, but are reflective of who you are and where you want to go.
    Icon Image
    Extensive Investment Experience
John has more than 30 years of experience managing investments – specifically individual stock recommendations – for high net worth individuals, families and businesses. This is John’s passion and he devotes significant time to research: reading annual reports, talking to investment managers, and participating in regular shareholder conference calls. John believes individuals stocks should be part of most investors portfolios as they are a cost-effective and tax-efficient way to invest.
    Icon Image
    Tailored Portfolios
No two clients are alike; therefore, no two portfolios are alike. We focus on fully understanding the circumstances surrounding your wealth and the timing of when you will begin accessing your savings, so we can create a strategy tailored just for you.
    Icon Image
    Tax-Aware Investing
Investing for the future is not only about how much you earn, but how much you keep. We have extensive knowledge in tax-advantaged investments. We bring a level of sophistication that very few advisors can offer in this dynamic arena.
    Icon Image
    Your Investment Quarterback
We collaborate with your accountant, attorney, and other professionals to gain the precise knowledge needed to effectively manage your wealth, while helping ensure each recommendation is fully aligned and implemented.
    Icon Image
    Proactive Communication
Life gets busy. We keep your finances in check by scheduling regular conversations and providing updated performance reports. We believe it is our responsibility to stay in sync with your life, so we can respond strategically to new risks and emerging opportunities.
    Icon Image
    A Strong Moral Compass
Every decision we make is focused on doing the right thing for you. We simplify your financial life, offering the most efficient solutions with objective advice. Above all, we have a strong work ethic, believe in the “golden rule,” and always put your interests ahead of our own.
    Icon Image
    First-Class Service
While there are many advisors who can provide a good plan, few excel at delivering an experience that emphasizes highly customized service and ongoing communication. We deliberately keep our practice small so we can help ensure you receive the level of service you deserve and expect.

Our Dynamic Approach

From planning to execution, every step of our process is designed to ensure a thoughtful and personalized experience. Your financial plan begins with an in-depth discovery process so we can fully understand where you are today and where you want to go. This, in turn, drives our investment recommendations that are designed to get you there on time and without any unnecessary risk.
    Icon Image
    1: Introduction
We begin with a phone call to learn about you, introduce you to our approach, and determine how we can add value to your situation.
    Icon Image
    2: Discovery
We then meet in person or via Zoom to learn more details about your current situation, your financial priorities, and timelines. Should we all agree to move forward, we will request copies of important financial documents to review in greater detail.
    Icon Image
    3: Analysis & Plan Development
Here, we utilize industry-leading financial planning tools to develop a first draft of your personalized financial plan and investment strategy.
    Icon Image
    4: Plan Presentation
In this step, we present your plan and investment strategy in broad terms. Based on feedback, we will adjust the plan accordingly before presenting a formal plan that includes specific investment recommendations.
    Icon Image
    5: Implementation
Upon your approval, we will implement the strategies outlined in the plan. Once assets have been transferred to Morgan Stanley and are aligned with your investment strategy, we will introduce you to all the tools resources now available to help you manage your assets easily and efficiently.
    Icon Image
    6: Ongoing Service & Care
We are committed to developing longstanding relationships that provide special value to you and your family. We will speak with you regularly to provide updates on your accounts. We also monitor progress towards each of your goals, adjusting your plan accordingly as changes in your life occur.

About Rick T Felix

Rick is a First Vice President, Financial Advisor and Financial Planning Specialist with The Claremont Group, a highly skilled advisory team located in Oakland, CA. With nearly 15 years of industry experience, Rick combines his extensive planning skills with an educational approach to guide clients towards the achievement of their specific financial goals. Rick is committed to delivering exceptional service as he works with each client to develop a customized financial plan to guide them to – and through – their retirement years.

Growing up in Southern California, Rick always had an interest in the financial markets. His parents instilled in him the importance of hard work and saving for unexpected financial emergencies, yet they took a more conservative approach in their investment strategies. When Rick learned about the stock market and how investing strategically could create greater wealth, he wanted to study as much as possible on the subject. While attending the University of California, Berkeley, Rick served as an intern at Morgan Stanley to continue learning about financial markets. It was during this experience that Rick achieved an even greater appreciation of the power of investing when paired with comprehensive financial planning. Upon earning his degree in 2007, Rick joined Morgan Stanley.

Today, Rick’s responsibilities focus on creating financial plans for every client. He manages the team’s mutual fund and exchange-traded fund investments. His goals-based process begins with asking the right questions and actively listening. This ongoing dialogue serves as the foundation for the development of a comprehensive strategy that reflects each client’s goals for the future. Rick receives great satisfaction knowing he is making a significant impact on the quality of his clients’ lives. He excels at simplifying the complexities of wealth management, effectively communicating each concept in a way his clients can easily understand.

Rick believes balance is vital to a happy life. He and his wife, Hana, live in Davis, California with their six-year-old son, Gavin, and their German Shepherd, Stella. Outside of the office, he and his family enjoy giving back to their community and are active in their church. Rick is a former board member of Mission Graduates, a San Francisco-based non-profit organization dedicated to establishing a college education as an expectation and goal for every child. Rick enjoys gardening, fishing and casual bike rides with his family. Among many of Rick’s activities, his favorite pastime is being a husband and dad and coaching his son’s baseball and soccer teams.
