About Christopher Symank
Christopher Symank
Senior Vice President
Senior Portfolio Manager
Investment Management Consultant
Financial Advisor
CA Insurance License #0G37418
NMLS #1275723
Chris has an entrepreneurial background. Prior to launching his career in financial services, he founded two companies focused on the production and sale of agricultural commodities. His experiences building, growing, and ultimately selling these companies have helped him understand the emotional commitment and sacrifice required of a successful business owner.
That connection fueled his decision to co-found The Cardinal Group at Morgan Stanley with Neil Menzies in 2008. Chris works closely with the team’s business-owner clients, bringing his personal experience to bear as he helps them grow, integrate and, where necessary, separate, their business and personal finances. Chris also acts as the team’s chief portfolio manager and is responsible for investment due diligence.
Born and raised in the St. Louis area, Chris relocated to California in the early 1980’s. He attended high school in the East Bay and then moved to the Peninsula where he earned a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University. A devoted supporter of his alma mater, Chris is a member of the Stanford Alumni Association, the Buck Cardinal Club, and a season ticket holder to Stanford Football—a passion he has instilled in his three sons.
Chris lives in San Ramon with his wife Lisa, and their sons. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys backpacking and fishing with his boys and volunteers with his church as an elder and youth leader. He also enjoys gourmet cooking, gardening, and travel.

Neil Menzies, CFP®, CAP®
Senior Investment Management Consultant
Family Wealth Advisor
Senior Vice President - Wealth Management
Financial Advisor
CA Insurance License #0C80951
Having started his Financial Advisory career in the San Jose, CA office of Merrill Lynch just before the NASDAQ peaked in March of 2000, Neil decided to focus his early years on the twin pillars of planning and protection. In order to serve the specific needs of his Silicon Valley clients, Neil built his practice around executives, entrepreneurs, and engineers with significant equity compensation and concentrated positions of stock, and he continues to advise our clients in those areas today.
Neil joined Smith Barney in 2005, and co-founded the Cardinal Group with Chris Symank in 2008. Today, Neil oversees the liability management, risk management, and financial planning practice areas within the team.
In addition to acquiring a number of internal titles and designations, Neil earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Chartered Advisory in Philanthropy® designations from the American College in 2002 and 2003, respectively.
Born and raised in New York City, Neil eventually made his way to California, where he graduated from Stanford University with an AB in International Relations and an AM in International Policy Studies. A devoted alumnus and a lover of sport, Neil has been attending Stanford football games since his undergraduate days, and he has been a season ticket holder since 2010.
More than two decades after graduating, Neil has maintained strong ties to his alma mater. He earned an Outstanding Achievement Award for his volunteer service in 2004, and served as a member of the Stanford Alumni Association’s Board of Directors from 2004-2009. He and his family also support a partial athletic scholarship at Stanford.
Neil also serves as Chief Financial Officer for The Meg Foundation, an organization dedicated to empowering children and their families with the tools, skills, and support to prevent and relieve unnecessary pain while undergoing needle sticks, COVID-19 tests, and other medically necessary procedures.
Neil lives in Blackhawk with his son Owen. When not on the golf course, he can often be found attending concerts, travelling, and playing or watching sports.

About Sarah Phillips
Sarah Phillips
Financial Advisor
CA Insurance License # 4134423
A member of The Cardinal Group since 2018, Sarah manages marketing, event planning and client relations for the team. Specifically Sarah develops close relationships with our clients in order to know their stories to ensure we are doing all we can to help them achieve their goals. She also works closely with women who are going through transitions in their lives, whether the result of divorce, the death of a spouse, or a career change, so that we are able to effectively service their unique financial needs.
Sarah graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design, and originally planned to pursue a career in architecture. Her decision to enter the financial world was a result of the career path reassessment one goes through when having fallen victim to a recession. She joined Morgan Stanley in 2011, and served in a number of roles before joining the Cardinal Group as the team’s Client Service Associate. Recognizing her impressive work ethic and keen intellect, Chris and Neil encouraged Sarah to consider a financial advisory role and she decided to transition to that capacity in mid-2020.
Born and raised in Danville, Sarah and her husband Jeff now live in nearby San Ramon with their two young children. She enjoys cooking, reading, and watching live theatre. She also enjoys spending time with her kids and sharing with them all of her favorite experiences growing up in the Bay Area.
