Our Process

Many of our clients are either contemplating retirement or already retired. Others are corporate executives whose wealth may be overly concentrated in the stock of their employers. Still others are business owners who are seeking the most efficient way to sell their company or perhaps transfer ownership to family members. For all these clients, we employ a planning-based process that includes the following steps:

    1. Discovery
    • As Financial Advisors, we understand the importance of listening before we offer possible recommendations

    • Our conversations will explore your aspirations, apprehensions, and unique circumstances

    • Only when we have a thorough understanding of these will we be able to proceed to the next phase of our process
    Icon Image
    2. Developing Your Plan
    • Our sophisticated wealth planning platform helps us provide you with an understanding of where you are on your journey and whether you will be able to reach your destination within your required timeframe

    • Once we understand whether you have a gap or a surplus between the projected cost of your goals and your overall resources, we will create a plan with customized recommendations
    Icon Image
    3. Evaluating Your Progress
    • We monitor your performance on an ongoing basis

    • We may alter our strategies to accommodate changing circumstances in your life or trends in the financial markets

    • When those markets turn turbulent, you can count on us to help you understand what’s going on and avoid emotional decisions that may impede your long-term progress

    4. Implementing Your Plan
    • Working closely with you to bring your plan to life

    • Consulting with Morgan Stanley professionals who specialize in estate planning, lending strategies, insurance, and other disciplines

    • Developing an investment strategy to meet any challenges

    • Ongoing analysis and adjustment of your positions to manage risk or take advantage of prevailing market conditions

Advising Senior Executives

Many of our clients are successful executives, whose personal wealth is linked inextricably to the fortunes of their companies. Often, their investment portfolios consist largely of employer stock and stock options that are subject to a myriad of rules of which they may only be vaguely aware. At The Atlantic Coastal Group, we are committed to helping you manage your wealth and make more informed choices. We understand the risks, as well as the rewards, of employer stock ownership and the need to integrate your corporate benefits with the rest of your finances. Specifically, we can help you address such issues as:
Avoiding Over-Concentration
Most corporate executives share an optimistic view of their company’s future and consider employer stock to be a sound investment. Perhaps it is, but would you concentrate such a substantial portion of your assets in any other stock? Our team offers objective guidance to:

• Diversify your portfolio without necessarily liquidating part of your employer stock position and incurring capital gains tax.
• Comply with SEC regulations, if applicable, should you choose to sell shares and reinvest the proceeds in other securities.
• Implement a 10b5-1 trading plan that can help you sell employer shares even during blackout periods when you are ordinarily not allowed to sell your company’s stock.
Understanding Your Options
What happens to your stock options if you decide to retire or leave your job for another employer? Do you own incentive stock options or non-qualified stock options, and do you understand how they differ? Should you consider exercising options now or wait until retirement?

At Wealth is almost invariably accompanied by complexity – how to preserve it in the face of volatile markets, how to grow it sufficiently to achieve your goals, how to transfer it to the next generation without excessive taxation or family conflict.

At The Atlantic Coastal Group, we can help you answer these questions and, equally as important, ask the right questions before making any decisions that might be irrevocable.
Separating from Service
Different companies have different policies about stock options, restricted stock units, and other equity compensation programs once you retire or leave the company. Before you make any decisions that might prove irrevocable, we’ll help you determine how those choices might affect the benefits you’ve accumulated.

With the help of Morgan Stanley professionals who focus on these areas, we’ve provided numerous executives with the guidance they needed to maximize the options and shares that were available to them. We can also help you determine the most tax-efficient way to handle the retirement plan assets you’ve accumulated throughout your career.
