My Story

As a Vice President, Financial Advisor, Financial Planning Specialist and Insurance Planning Director at Morgan Stanley, Terry helps to implement strategies in the realm of retirement income planning, philanthropic giving, tax-efficient estate structures, and other advanced approaches to managing the financial affairs of business-owners and their families, as well as specialized professionals and senior corporate executives. His focus is on helping define the lifestyle wishes of clients and then formulating a roadmap to help bring these ideas into reality.

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley , Terry worked as an executive within the industrial manufacturing sector in successively progressive roles. This experience has allowed for a unique perspective, focusing on the needs of the business as well as the business owner in a rounded and universal manner. This outlook prepared Terry to act as a valuable resource as part of the process of business transfer and asset disposition, governance issues for family owned enterprises, legacy and planned giving, and inter-generational wealth transfer.

Terry employs a systematic wealth management process to develop actionable plans tailored to individual situations. He is dedicated to thoroughly understanding each client’s financial position, long and short-term goals, and appetite for risk. Terry then uses this information along with the firm’s modern wealth management analytics and risk management tools to formulate customized strategies. Terry’s broad experience combined with Morgan Stanley’s vast resources enable him to assist with almost every facet of financial services including investment management, retirement planning, cash management, legacy, philanthropy, and education planning. Working with an extensive network of specialists in insurance, structured solutions, estate planning strategies, and lending services, complements and deepens the advice Terry offers.

As an alumnus of Indiana University Kelley School of Business and a lifelong Hoosier, Terry has a firm grounding and Midwestern sensibilities to apply common-sense solutions to multifaceted subjects that affect the lives of clients. He is active in community centered affairs in his home of Bremen, IN. Terry and his wife Heather have been married for 39 years and have 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren.

Focus on your life while I manage your wealth

Most of my clients are business owners, high level executives, or individuals who want to focus on their family and life. I know from first hand experience how busy work and life can get, and that's why I'm dedicating to making it easier for you. My clients look to me to provide sophisticated wealth management, as well as to simplify their financial decision making. I have structured my practice to serve both goals. Here is what I'll be doing for you to make it all easier:
    Icon Image
    Identify blind spots
Like a balance sheet has both assets and liabilities, a well-designed financial plan describes how to both PURSUE your goals, and protect against anything that might PREVENT you from reaching them. For example, a serious health issue, the loss of a spouse or a long-term market correction. I refer to these “Blind Spots,” and build contingencies against them into your plan.
    Icon Image
    Create financial checkpoints
Your financial plan is not a static document – it evolves as circumstances dictate. That’s why I create “financial checkpoints” – specific sign posts with action items built into the plan.
    Icon Image
    Provide comprehensive recommendations
Every decision involving money affects the next one, and the one after that. That’s why clients seek my counsel for every financial decision. I can both provide thoughtful and ensure that each decision adheres to your overall strategy.
    Icon Image
    Commitment to client education
My clients count on me to simplify their wealth management … but they don’t want a “black box” – they want to fully understand the strategy and tactics. This kind of collaborative approach builds and sustains a close, long-term relationship, and I am committed to sharing our knowledge and experience with you (and your family).
    Icon Image
    Tax - Efficient Strategies
I strive to simplify complex financial ideas so that my clients understand what is being done on their behalf to plan for their financial future. I want to provide my clients with as many resources as possible so they can stay up to date with the latest market trends and outlooks.
    Icon Image
    International Wealth Management
Morgan Stanley International Wealth Management (IWM) harnesses the extensive capabilities of the firm to serve investors located outside the United States. I am an experienced International Client Advisor who understands your unique wealth management needs in your part of the world and strive to provide highly customized strategies to address your specific financial goals.
    Icon Image
    Trust And Business Sale Planning
Successful business owners are visionaries. You are constantly thinking about how your business will prosper, who you should hire, where you want to expand, what your financing needs are, and ultimately your exit strategy. I assume responsibility for the concerns of managing the financial needs of your business while also considering your personal wealth objectives.
    Icon Image
    Annuties & Insurance
A sound wealth plan involves more than just seeking returns. It also involves mitigating and managing risks, helping clients when the unexpected occurs. Insurance and annuities are often used to help clients plan for and guard against life’s hidden curves—helping protect their assets and their family’s well-being.

As an Insurance Planning Director, I work with our clients on liability management and how it can be incorporated into their comprehensive wealth plan.

Sophisticated Wealth Management

Using all of the resources at Morgan Stanley, I will leverage sophisticated thinking and innovative tactics to help my clients reach their goals. Some examples:
    Icon Image
The Morgan Stanley Global Investment Committee (GIC)
The GIC includes some of the most respected investment professionals in the world. They monitor the worldwide economy, prevailing market conditions and emerging trends. They conduct and evaluate in-depth research. They recommend investment tactics, portfolio allocations and positions. That’s a wealth of intellectual capital working for you.
    Icon Image
    Macroeconomic analysis and trending
No investment happens in a vacuum. I study and analyze the U.S. and global economies, providing context for today … and a perspective on the future.
    Icon Image
    A different approach to retirement
One often hears the phrase “planning for retirement.” But retirement is not a single event – it might extend several decades. My retirement plans are divided into three stages: Early Stages, Mid-Retirement, Later Stages. Each reflects how your needs may evolve, so you are positioned to live the retirement you want.
    Icon Image
    A proven planning process
My process is the result of many years of experience. Nothing is more important that the first step, which I call “Discovery.” I take the time to get to know you – your goals, your passions, your family, your feelings about risk, how and when you’d like to be contacted. I will help identify and articulate your goals, which is essential to crafting your plan.
    Icon Image
    Aladdin - Intelligent Risk Management
There’s a chance your portfolio may be at risk, but how you manage that risk is what matters.

Morgan Stanley's Portfolio Risk Platform analyzes over 3,000 risk factors, and models what-if scenarios so you can see the potential impact of hypothetical market shocks. The Portfolio Risk Platform integrates the leading risk analytics engine into Morgan Stanley Wealth Management’s platform to improve the quality, transparency, and efficiency of the end to end risk management processes for the Firm and our Clients.

Assessing my clients’ full investment needs and risks is an essential component of providing comprehensive financial advice in portfolio construction. Key features of the Portfolio Risk Tool, Aladdin, include broadly managing risk, identifying risk based concerns and constructing risk mitigated portfolios.

HELPING ADDRESS THE FINANCIAL CONCERNS OF FAMILIES OF SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN & INDIVIDUALS

A family of a child or children with special needs has financial concerns and issues that differ from the typical investor. I am pleased to provide the comfort of a team that both understands your specific financial challenges, and respects the personal issues you face every day.
Parents or grandparents planning for the financial well-being of a special needs child face several challenges. They must design their financial and estate plan so that it provides for their special needs child without:

• Depriving their other children of a meaningful inheritance,

• Placing their other children in a position of responsibility that they may not be prepared or willing to assume, or

• Rendering their special needs child ineligible for government benefits like Supplemental Social Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid.
For families wrestling with these complex issues, a special needs trust can prove to be a viable solution:
