My Story and Services

Sonia Balfour-Fears is a Financial Advisor and Global Sports & Entertainment Director with Morgan Stanley. She began working in the financial services industry in 2000. She then joined Bank of America/Merrill Lynch in 2006. During her time with Merrill Lynch, she founded the Fears Group, which was Merrill’s first African American mother-daughter wealth management team. She has since transitioned to Morgan Stanley where she is one of fewer than 2% of Morgan Stanley's Financial Advisors to have obtained the Global Sports & Entertainment Director designation as of January 2022.

Sonia has gained nearly two decades of invaluable experience as a business owner, mortgage specialist, and tax professional. In her entrepreneurial role as a medical supply dealer, Sonia developed a relationship through the Trade Commission of the United States Department of Commerce and landed a highly lucrative contract with a client in Spain. She believes this cultural and professional exposure provided her with distinctive insight into the discipline and foresight needed to compete in a global economy.

She understands the vast complexities of each stage of wealth and believes successful, long-term planning involves more than just investments. She believes that educating and providing clients with holistic, customized guidance to help achieve their goals is the basis of financial planning. She also leverages her mortgage and tax experience to help clients make proactive, tax-efficient financial decisions.

Sonia attended Howard University and the University of Maryland, College Park where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. She remains active in her community and is board certified by the United Way. Currently, she serves on the board for the Jamaican Chamber of Commerce and is the Chairwoman for the Downtown West Development board. She also volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, Hands on Atlanta, and the United Way. Sonia has been a member of Friendship Baptist Church since 2016 and currently serves on the leadership team of the Women’s Ministry. Though born in Jamaica, Sonia currently lives in Powder Springs, GA with her husband Ayron. They have three children, Rhea, Ayanna, and Ayron. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening, boating, and spending time with her family.
