About Alissa B Hersch
Hi, I’m Alissa Hersch, a Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley. I feel incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to meet people from diverse backgrounds, get to know them on a deep level, and help guide them through the exploration and accomplishment of their goals. When I reflect on what has driven me throughout my life, it consistently comes back to fostering meaningful connections and giving my all to those around me.
While I’m a Seattle native (one of the few remaining), I’ve always loved to travel and stay active. Growing up, I played soccer and ski raced at high levels, which not only kept me active but also gave me the opportunity to travel across the U.S. and internationally at a young age. I once hoped one of my sports would carry into my undergraduate years, but a career-ending injury just as I began exploring colleges forced a pivot. In many ways, that moment opened the door for me to discover who I was outside of athletics.
I ultimately chose Santa Clara University because I believed it would provide a supportive community as I continued exploring my identity and stepping into adulthood. With a passion for the sciences (which I’m sure I inherited from my late mother, a dedicated science teacher), I jumped into an Intro to Neuropsychology course. Fascinated by how our brains work and what motivates us, I quickly declared Psychology as my major. A year later—at the (gentle) urging of my father—I enrolled in my first business class. Studying under a captivating economics professor sparked another side of my curiosity, and with only two years remaining, I committed to adding a business minor.
As I continued to learn and evolve, I took every opportunity to broaden my perspective through experiences abroad. One of the most impactful was time spent in a remote village in Africa—an awakening that changed how I see the world. From there, I spent time in Spain, and following graduation, I lived in Switzerland for a year, traveling throughout Europe on the weekends and adding some French to my repertoire. Each experience deepened my desire to learn from others and understand what shapes their values, decisions, and aspirations.
Having spent many summers interning at Smith Barney throughout high school and college, I started thinking about how I could make a meaningful difference in the world of personal finance. As the industry evolved from brokerage toward more planning- and relationship-based advice, I became determined to bring together my interest in people and finance in a way that truly improves clients’ lives. I joined Smith Barney upon returning from Europe, and today I have the privilege of focusing on what matters most to my clients—helping them explore their priorities and guiding them so they can show up as their most highly regarded selves for the people and causes they care about. I thrive on being a trusted resource for my clients and seeing them, in turn, be everything they want to be for their families, communities, and philanthropic passions.
Outside of work, I’m always looking for ways to get outdoors and travel with my family. I’m a mother of two little ones, and my husband, Matt—also a partner with Pike Place Partners—and I spend many winter weekends in the mountains sharing our love of skiing. I also coach my children’s soccer teams, serve as Treasurer of the Finance Committee and a member of the Board of Directors for Meridian School, and support my son’s school through its annual campaign. Giving back is important to me, and I stay involved where I can to help strengthen our community. I’m also grateful to be part of the Washington Women’s Foundation and to have been involved with Impact 100 Seattle, organizations that support nonprofits and community impact—especially for women and girls. Above all, I find my greatest joy in encouraging and championing the people around me.
