About Me

Todd Smith is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM and the managing partner for the Piedmont Group at Morgan Stanley. Under his direction, the Piedmont Group manages the assets of endowments and foundations, corporate pension plans, business owners, family offices and high net worth individuals. Drawing on over 20 years of wealth advisory experience, Todd is experienced in the areas of family wealth management, investment policy, investment strategy and asset management. His tenure with the firm has given him vital knowledge in navigating and maximizing the intellectual capital and resources of the firm.


Along with the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM designation, Todd has attained the title of Senior Investment Management Consultant through the Consulting Group. This designation is given only to top Morgan Stanley Advisors who have demonstrated extensive knowledge of capital markets, comprehensive investment management consulting experience and the highest level of ethical behavior in business. He also has the designation of Private Wealth Advisor and Family Wealth Director (formerly Citigroup Family Office) which is reserved for advisors who focus on ultra high net worth families and allows for differentiated amenities dedicated to serving this group of clientele.


Todd graduated from Denison University in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He and his wife, Nancy, have two daughters and a son. About Me

Tom Beard’s deep and diverse professional experience, both within the financial services industries and beyond, brings a creative perspective to the wealth planning needs of the team’s individual and institutional clients. Tom joined the firm in March 2004, coming from the Private Wealth Management division of Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown. As Managing Director with the Deutsche Bank Mid Atlantic Group for the investment banking division, and as director of the Atlanta branch of Stephens, Inc. (Little Rock, Arkansas), Tom launched investment-banking opportunities on a national and international scale, with a focus on the Southeast.


A graduate of the University of Georgia business school, Tom was a U.S. Army officer and later served in the White House as Deputy Assistant to the President. He has been involved as a board member with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Atlanta College of Art, the National Symphony Orchestra Board of Trustees, the President’s Committee for the Olympic Games in Atlanta, the International Campaign for Tibet and Camp Sunshine. Tom is also a former co-owner of three Winston Cup NASCAR race teams. Tom and his wife, Frances, live in Atlanta and have three married children, three grandsons and two granddaughters.

About Me

A member of the Piedmont Group since 1998, Sean Sanders is responsible for assisting corporate clients with plan evaluation and design, vendor selection, investment review, fee benchmarking and participant education. Sean brings deep experience and formal training to the task. He earned the Corporate Retirement Director designation after advanced training and examination, focusing exclusively on the corporate retirement plan marketplace. The curriculum involves in-depth study of plan design, investment strategy, plan administration, fiduciary issues and other related retirement topics. Fewer than 2006 Morgan Stanley’s more than 16,000+ advisors have qualified for this prestigious designation.


Sean graduated from Georgia State University with a B.B.A. in finance. Following graduation, he pursued a career as an investment professional and has held his Series 7, 63 and 65 registrations since 1995. In his free time, Sean is a multi-sport athlete and competes in triathlons, bike races and adventure races across the country. He and his wife, Ashley, have a son, Noah, and a daughter, Ella.

About Me

A member of the Piedmont Group since 2008, Charley Traylor functions primarily as an analyst for the team and conducts initial and ongoing investment manager due diligence for equity, fixed income and hedge fund managers.  He is Series 7, 66 and 3 registered and has successfully passed Levels 1 and 2 of the CFA program.

Charley received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Indiana University - Bloomington.  While at IU he played varsity men's soccer where is team on the Division 1 National Championship in 2003 and 2004.  He was elected team captain in 2007.  Charley lives in Atlanta with his wife, Nikki, and their dogs, Ellie Belle and Winston.  He coaches TopHat Soccer Club in Atlanta in his spare time.

About Me

A member of the Piedmont Group since 2000, Joe Woo provides technical support in portfolio monitoring, performance reporting and investment management research. Joe graduated from the University of Phoenix with a degree in business administration. He also received his Financial Planning Associates designation from Morgan Stanley in 2004, and is Series 3, 7, 63 and 65 registered.


In his spare time, Joe is a student pilot and enjoys flying Cessna aircrafts. He also volunteers with local nonprofit organizations, including Good Shepherd Services of Atlanta, a community services program that assists with refugees, and the Korean American Coalition, an organization aimed at developing Asian American communities.

About Me

Michelle joined Morgan Stanley in 2015 and became a member of the Piedmont Group since 2016.  With over 9 years of experience in the financial services industry, Michelle received her Series 7 and 66 securities licenses and focuses on providing high level client service and administrative support for the team. 


Michelle graduated from Indiana University with a Journalism degree.  She lives in Atlanta with her husband, Paul, and their dog, Daisy.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, golfing, cooking, and Chicago Bears football.
