My Story and Services

The way you think about wealth can have an enormous impact on the outcome of your investment strategy. Even more important than your investor mindset is your personal relationship to wealth. Successful, affluent people actually personify money. In fact, a 25-year study of millionaires found that wealthy people consider money as "one of their greatest allies and friends.”1

My clients tend to think of me like a medical internist for their wealth. I have a broad and deep range of knowledge and experience in a wide array of financial areas that allows me to keep a close, constant eye on your financial health and well-being. I strive to make sure your investments are meeting all of their growth milestones, that they receive a risk mitigation strategy, and that any areas of concern are dealt with swiftly and comprehensively. I also draw on a team of specialists in the areas of portfolio management, private banking, retirement planning, risk management and estate planning to help develop and manage strategies for your personal and business finances.

After receiving my degrees from the University of Oxford, I had the unique opportunity to serve the financing needs of major corporations throughout the UK and the United States. I earned an Executive MBA at New York’s Stern School of Business and, in 2009, I became a Financial Advisor. Now, I work with a select group of affluent individuals, families and small business owners, with whom I have relationships based on trust, respect and transparency. Due to the high level of attention I provide to my clients, I target my services to those with $500K or more of investable assets.

Outside of work, I love to ski, play tennis, read books and appreciate art. My wife Ellen and I live in Brooklyn with our two boys, James and William.  Our family enjoys spending time in the Hudson Valley and volunteering with several local charities.

Small Business Owners

If you are like many of my small business owner clients, you are a visionary. You have an exceptional ability to see the big picture, but you also can turn a laser focus on hundreds of details at once. You are constantly thinking about how your business will prosper, who you should hire, where you want to expand and what your financing needs are.

And, like my other small business owner clients, the assets of your business probably account for the lion’s share of your personal wealth. Managing the financial needs of your business while also considering your personal wealth objectives can be a balancing act. I work with your outside advisors – your attorney, accountant and others – to ensure that your strategy encompasses both your business and personal objectives

Together, we work to create and maintain essential infrastructures that manage the details of your company retirement plans, life, health and long-term care insurance policies, and your own financial planning needs. I also call on Morgan Stanley specialists to review your cash management and capital needs and, if appropriate, to share alternatives for you to consider.

My approach to integrating your business and personal financial needs is comprehensive but flexible. I start with whatever is keeping you up at night, then tackle other priorities until every piece of your financial life is connected and cared for.

    What To Expect

You can expect to be guided by a disciplined, instructive and straightforward approach to investing that puts your financial plan front and center. This process is driven by your immediate needs and concerns, as well as a mutual understanding of what matters most to you.

    Step 1: Discovery & Analysis.
My financial planning process is designed to be comprehensive, so I gather as much information as possible.  The more data my clients are able to provide me, the better picture I am able to create in developing our strategies. I review everything from your investments to real estate, retirement accounts, education funding, social security benefits, stock options, insurance, and estate planning documents including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care proxy. Once I have all the necessary information, I can review your current and future financial situation, identify the likelihood of you reaching your goals and address any potential shortfalls or impacts of unexpected life events.

    Step 2: Investment Plan Meeting.
Here, we’ll discuss the customized strategies I’ve developed for you. With my guidance, you will have access to our comprehensive array of products and services that collectively can provide you with a foundation for implementing and carrying out your financial strategy. Finding the most effective solution to each objective is my top priority.

    Step 3: 45-day Follow-Up Meeting.
This is a chance to review the ways in which your investment strategies are now working to meet your objectives.

    Step 4: Regular Review Meetings.
As part of my ongoing commitment to you, we’ll regularly review your comprehensive financial plan and make sure it stays current with developments in your life.  In light of changing market conditions or changes in your circumstances, I can recommend adjustments to help keep you on track.

      Investment Philosophy

You have the right to expect that your investments can deliver what you want out of life. You should also be able to expect your investment portfolio to balance your aspirations with your tolerance for risk and market volatility. After three decades of working with institutional clients and high net worth individuals, I understand that your comfort level with risk is the first element in determining suitable investments for your portfolio. I categorize risk into three broad buckets:

The safety or personal risk bucket

The core or market risk bucket

The tactical or aspirational risk bucket

Investment money placed in the personal risk bucket aims to keep pace with or better than inflation. It is willing to accept below market returns in exchange for less downside potential. Investment money placed in the market risk bucket seeks to balance risk and return to attain market-level performance from a broadly diversified portfolio. Aspirational bucket money takes measured but significant risk to potentially increase the investment upside.

The financial plan we create determines how much of your investable money goes into in one, two, or all three of these risk buckets. From there, I utilize my experience and Morgan Stanley’s open architecture platform to develop customized solutions to meet your requirements. I have access to advanced portfolio and trading technology, which allows me to act quickly on investment decisions, a crucial factor in today’s fast paced markets.

I choose investments with the primary objectives of diversification, low expenses and tax efficiency.

I believe in providing you with absolute transparency. I am primarily a fee-based advisor with a fiduciary responsibility to work in your best interest.

        My Capabilities

Like most successful business people, I surround myself with a team of very good, very specialized professionals whom I trust. After three decades of holding senior level capital market positions at leading banks throughout the UK and the United, States, I know how to marshal resources for your benefit. My direct access to an extensive range of portfolio management, private banking, retirement planning, risk management, estate planning and corporate planning resources allows me to help you manage the complex and often multigenerational challenges that accompany significant wealth.

This team approach offers you the benefits of:

        Multiple perspectives

        Balanced thinking

        Deep experience in specific areas

The desired result is to produce sophisticated and highly personalized solutions to meet your most complex personal and business financial challenges.

7Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information.
