About James Joseph
An Orchard Park native, James grew up just a short distance from the Morgan Stanley office where he now serves as Resident Manager. His father was a Financial Advisor and James always knew he would enter the business that fascinated him from the time he was a child.
After graduating from St. Bonaventure University with a B.S. in Finance and a minor in Philosophy of Business Ethics, James set out to pursue his dream. Initially, he worked with his father at PaineWebber (now UBS) but eventually, he built his own successful practice there over the next 27 years. When his firm closed its suburban Buffalo office in 2019, James was concerned that his clients would lose the accessibility they had enjoyed throughout their relationship. That was when he moved to Morgan Stanley where, at least before the current Covid pandemic, he always encouraged clients to drop in whenever they wish and discuss their finances face-to-face. James looks forward to resuming that practice when the pandemic is over.
As a Financial Advisor and Morgan Stanley-credentialed Portfolio Manager, James manages assets on both a discretionary and non-discretionary basis. His investment philosophy is based on what he calls “disruptions” – companies that he believes are poised to change the world through innovative technology or business practices. As Resident Manager, James helps Financial Advisors access the extensive resources of Morgan Stanley to solve problems that may involve investments but often go far beyond to encompass such varied disciplines as private banking, insurance and estate planning.
Outside the office, James has been active in his community, coaching youth softball teams, volunteering at his children’s schools and supporting organizations that advocate for young girls around the world. He and his wife Mary reside in East Aurora with their two high school-age daughters.
