About Douglas Gainer
Doug grew up in Wayne, N.J. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, rowed for the Men’s Lightweight Crew team, earned his B.S. in Political Science,
and was Vice President of his class. At graduation, he was commissioned as an Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps and went on to serve on active duty throughout Asia,
the Middle East, and Europe with deployments in support of the Global War on Terrorism and Operation Enduring Freedom. After leaving active duty in 2003, he transitioned to the Marine Reserves and is currently the rank of Major and worked for the Commander of Marine Corps Forces in the Pacific on major theatre contingency
plans for the Marines.
Doug started as an FAA in the Smith Barney office in Honolulu in 2003 and was an FA for 8 years, building a practice based around HNW families, small business owners, and the
non-profit community in Hawaii. In 2011 he moved on to be the Complex Business Development Manager in the Hawaii Complex, supporting the FA’s with practice management
training and sales support. In 2015 he moved to Palo Alto as the Business Development Manager for the Palo Alto Hawaii Complex, working to support the businesses in Silicon
Valley which included FA specializations within International Wealth Management, Corporate Services, UHNW, and highly compensated executives. Doug was promoted to be the
Associate Complex Manager in Palo Alto in 2016 and served in that role through July 2018. In August 2018 he took over as the Branch Manager in San Rafael, CA and then moved over to be the Branch Manager in Oakland, CA in May 2022 where he now serves as Market Manager of the Oakland and Orinda Branches. He has worked with scores of FA’s and teams on team formation and development, marketing and branding of their practices, client service models, scalability of advice, and entrepreneurship.
When he’s not working, Doug can be found training for lacrosse and traveling. While living in Hawaii he completed an Ironman triathlon and was active in the ocean swimming race community. He also devotes time to a few non-profit causes supporting veterans.
