Welcome

I believe achieving meaningful financial goals begins with a comprehensive, personalized wealth strategy built around what matters most to you. My approach to wealth management is shaped by both experience and long-term perspective. Growing up in Northern Virginia, my interest in finance began early when I helped establish a student-run bank during my secondary school years, an experience that sparked a lifelong focus on financial planning and investing. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Finance from George Mason University, I joined Morgan Stanley in 1999 and have spent more than two decades helping individuals, families, and business owners navigate complex financial decisions with clarity and confidence.

As your Financial Advisor, I take a holistic, goals-based approach, working closely with you to define priorities, align strategies, and adapt plans as your life evolves. Whether you are accumulating wealth, planning for retirement, managing generational assets, or creating income and distribution strategies, my focus is on delivering integrated financial solutions designed to support your lifestyle, long-term objectives, and legacy goals.

401(k) Plan Support for Employers: Evaluation, Investments, and Ongoing Support

Step 1: Plan Evaluation & Needs Analysis

We begin with a structured needs analysis to help you evaluate whether your current plan design and provider are aligned with your business goals and your employees' needs. Together, we will review:

  • Your business background and plan goals (including why the plan was established and what success looks like for your organization)
  • Your current retirement plan design and objectives
  • Employee demographics and participant behavior (participation, deferral rates, and how employees are investing)
  • Plan benchmarking against comparable plans in the marketplace so you can assess whether fees are competitive and whether you're receiving strong value for the cost
  • Provider and service capabilities through periodic reviews, including considerations such as recordkeeping and administration, participant communications and education resources, investment flexibility and many more.

This helps determine whether your current provider remains the best fit—or whether exploring alternatives could better support your plan.

Step 2: Investment Support & Participant Education

Selecting an appropriate menu of investment options is a key component of an effective retirement plan. We help you build and maintain an investment lineup that aligns with your plan's objectives and any applicable investment policy statement (IPS). This includes:

  • General investment education for you and your participants, such as diversification, risk, asset allocation, and historical performance (for educational purposes)
  • Investment option selection support, including identifying multiple choices within each asset class from the provider's available fund universe that are consistent with the plan's IPS
  • Section 404(c) support considerations, including helping you evaluate whether plan investment structure and participant materials are positioned to support ERISA 404(c) compliance requirements

Ongoing Monitoring & Plan Maintenance

Ongoing monitoring is essential to keeping your plan aligned with its goals over time. We support plan oversight by:

  • Reviewing periodic reports to help you monitor investment options and plan trends
  • Conducting searches for replacements when an investment option no longer aligns with the plan's IPS or objectives
  • Providing ongoing education and research to promote informed and prudent decision-making

Day-to-Day Support for Plan Sponsors

While plan oversight is important, it's only one part of running a business. As your Financial Advisor team, we can also help you:

  • Address common operational questions and issues that arise with routine plan activity
  • Support documentation practices designed to help demonstrate alignment with ERISA-related standards
  • Help employees understand plan features and make informed elections
  • Provide basic retirement planning education to improve participation and retirement readiness

Tax laws are complex and subject to change. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC ("Morgan Stanley") , its affiliates and Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors and Private Wealth Advisors do not provide tax or legal advice and are not "fiduciaries" (under ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code or otherwise) with respect to the services or activities described herein except as otherwise provided in writing by Morgan Stanley and/or as described at www.morganstanley.com/disclosures/dol. Individuals are encouraged to consult their tax and legal advisors (a) before establishing a retirement plan or account, and (b) regarding any potential tax, ERISA and related consequences of any investments made under such plan or account.

We provide resources to help families introduce financial concepts in age-appropriate ways, making money conversations more natural and productive over time.

Financial education is often one of the most effective ways families prepare the next generation to manage inherited wealth responsibly.

Gifting Considerations for Wealth Transfer & Estate Planning
Strategic gifting can be a powerful way to transfer wealth, reduce future estate tax exposure, and support loved ones during meaningful life stages. However, gifting decisions should align with your overall financial plan and long-term legacy goals.

We help families evaluate when and how to gift assets, taking into consideration tax rules, timing, and the financial readiness of recipients.

Strategic gifting may help reduce estate tax exposure while allowing families to witness the positive impact of their wealth during their lifetime.

About Danny Riley

I grew up in Alexandria, VA and graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree in finance. I have been in the financial services industry ever since graduation starting as a Financial Advising Specialist at Ameriprise Financial before moving over to Morgan Stanley in 2019.

Over the last two years working at Morgan Stanley as a Wealth Advisor Associate I have helped clients develop comprehensive financial plans. My role as a Financial Advisor with The Alexandria Group is to help families define their financial goals, plan tax-efficient strategies that are optimal for those goals, and help them to implement these strategies to meet the objectives we have set in place. I know over time my clients’ goals and situations may grow and change, and I want to be there to help guide them through these changes and help to implement new strategies to meet their new objectives.

In my spare time I like to travel for golf, hiking, and snowboarding.

5Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan's investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan's flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan's investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state's own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state's tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.

Some income may be subject to state and local taxes and to the federal alternative minimum tax. Capital gains, if any, are subject to tax.

7An investment in an exchange-traded fund (ETF) involves risks similar to those of investing in a broadly based portfolio of equity securities traded on exchange in the relevant securities market, such as market fluctuations caused by such factors as economic and political developments, changes in interest rates and perceived trends in stock prices. The investment return and principal value of ETF investments will fluctuate, so that an investor’s ETF shares, if or when sold, may be worth more or less than the original cost.

Investors should carefully consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses of an exchange-traded fund (ETF) before investing. The prospectus contains this and other information about the ETF. To obtain a prospectus, contact your Financial Advisor or visit the ETF company’s website. Please read the prospectus carefully before investing.
