My Story and Services

For me, family is everything. As a husband and father of twins, I know the importance of making memories now, while planning for a secure and prosperous future. That is my approach when serving every one of my clients, who for me, are extended family. My focus is on personalized service, investment strategies tailored to each client’s needs, and detailed planning for retirement. My practice takes a boutique approach, kept small by design, so each client receives the utmost attention. That includes meeting with each client every quarter, talking to them every month, and keeping in close contact year-round. I also host events that are exclusively designed for clients as an opportunity to connect socially, while sharing information.

I began working as a financial advisor nearly twenty-five years ago with one mission: to be an advocate and resource for individuals and families seeking a financial advisor who has their best interests at heart. We are all so busy these days. I am a dedicated professional, diligently working to help you meet your financial goals. Our relationship starts with a financial plan. From there, we form an investment point of view. Then, we implement the plan by leveraging Morgan Stanley’s expertise and vast array of resources. For each client, it is the best of both worlds: the support of a well-respected firm with very personalized attention and service.

As I mentioned, my family is the most important focus and source of pride in my life. I am blessed to be married to my best friend Diana. Our twins, Leo and Lindsay, are now working adults and doing great! Like you, I understand the importance of providing for family now and later. The biggest sense of accomplishment is starting with a plan and then seeing it through to retirement and beyond.

Outside of work and family, I give back to Greenville in many ways. My focus is on caring for children who are struggling. I am currently on the board of the Judson Community Center which focuses on mentoring, teaching, and caring for underprivileged children. I served on the Campaign Cabinet at the United Way of Greenville County, raising funds and awareness for some of the most critical non-profit programs in our community. I had been part of United Way leadership for more than two decades. I also volunteer with Mentor Upstate and mentored the same young man, who is in high school, since he was in second grade. I cannot thank my clients in the Upstate and across the country enough for their support.

My 10 Commandments to Successful Investing

1. Rear View Mirror Investing can be hazardous to your wealth: do not just pick an investment because it has done well in the past.

2. Greed and Fear are the two worst emotions an investor can have: Warren Buffet says buy when you are most scared and sell when you are feeling complacent. I agree. Fear too often forces investors to sell at or close to bottoms while greed can sway investors to buy towards tops.

3. Buy and Hold are a thing of the past: you can no longer buy a stock, mutual fund, or bond and let it just sit there left unattended. News travels too fast and companies come and go too quickly for you to just hold on forever.

4. Don’t watch the “news” to make investment decisions.

5. Boring is better: do not buy the hot stock or the newest 5 star rated mutual fund that everyone is talking about. Rather invest in tried and true companies or funds that focus on “hitting singles and doubles” as opposed to home runs.

6. Review your investments at least quarterly. Client service is my number one focus. It is imperative to review your holdings, your accounts performance, and its prospects going forward on a quarterly basis. Always open your statements.

7. Buy what you know: this is a tried and true theory first stated by famed investor Peter Lynch. Buying what you know and like not only allows the investor to be enthusiastic about the investment, but also allows the investor to have more conviction behind the investment.

8. Implement a retirement plan: it is imperative to have a road map for retirement. The more detailed the plan is, the better odds you have to get to the finish line successfully.

9. Avoid concentration to one asset class. Diversifying with different stocks only will result in a concentration of equities.

10. Selling is the hardest but most critical part to successful investing: Buying is the easy part. Have a target in place on the upside and the downside for each investment and stick to it. This forces you to sell for gains while also limiting your potential downside risk.

    Community Involvement

    Tab Image
Giving back to our community is a core principle not just for me but for my family. Currently, I am serving on the board of The YMCA Judson Community Center which provides afterschool, preschool and summer day camps for children in need. For more than 20 years, I volunteered for the United Way of Greenville County. My roles ranged from being on the campaign cabinet to starting and then running our company campaign here at Morgan Stanley for the past 10 years. In addition, I also helped start a new United Way division in Greenville County called ReUnited, which focuses on retired residents of Greenville County and gives them an outlet to continue to volunteer for charitable organizations in town. Also, my wife Diana was honored to be the Campaign Chair a few years back, in which she led our team to raise more than 15 million dollars for dozens of organizations that the United Way endorses here in Greenville County.

For several years, I've been a volunteer for Mentor Upstate, which is an organization where individuals, like myself, have the opportunity to mentor students looking to have a positive role model in their lives. I was honored to be able to visit the same student for the past 8 years every week and see how far he has grown. I cannot believe we started together when he was in second grade and now he has made it all the way to Greenville High! I cannot tell you how meaningful this relationship has been to me over the years.

My wife Diana was the lead news anchor for Fox Carolina for 15 years. After that, Diana decided it was time to further give back to the community and left her desirable job to become the Chief Philanthropy Officer at the YMCA of Greenville County. Among all the other fund raising campaigns she leads, during Covid, Diana started a food program through the Y to feed families living in motels and other less desirable shelters. The program has grown from feeding 5 families a week to more than 200 in the past couple of years. Our kids Leo and Lindsay have helped volunteer with the Y since 2020 and have also embraced the importance of giving back. Diana now owns her own company with a focus on helping non-profit organizations raise awareness for all the great things they do.

Diana and I moved to Greenville more than 25 years ago knowing nobody in town. We have been so blessed to call Greenville home and meet so many amazing friends and people. No matter what our roles are in the future, we will always make giving back to the community of Greenville a primary focus. We cannot think of a better community to live in and raise our family than Greenville and we will always strive to help make it the best community it can be.

    About Carolyn Breazeale

I am a Greenville, SC native and I truly love my hometown! There is so much to offer and being at Morgan Stanley feels like coming home.

I worked for the Smith Barney Branch in downtown Greenville from 2001-2008. While there I started out in operations and shortly moved into the CSA role, to be more hands on with clients by supporting Financial Advisors. I decided to leave the business in 2008 to focus on my family and raising my children. While a lot has changed in the business, the commitment to client care and excellence prevails and I am so happy to be back.

I am the proud mama of two teenage boys, Connor (18) and Logan (15) and a 90lb Golden Retriever named Charlie who thinks he is a lapdog . Connor just started his freshman year at Clemson University as a Business/Marketing Major and Logan, who is a Sophomore in Highschool is focused on Soccer and on his 2nd year in Marching Band. I spend a lot of my weekends at competitions or on the field cheering him on.

An organization that is near and dear to my heart is, JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) where I currently sit as an outreach Chair for SC and have been very active since my youngest was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic back in 2015 at age 6.

5An investment in an exchange-traded fund (ETF) involves risks similar to those of investing in a broadly based portfolio of equity securities traded on exchange in the relevant securities market, such as market fluctuations caused by such factors as economic and political developments, changes in interest rates and perceived trends in stock prices. The investment return and principal value of ETF investments will fluctuate, so that an investor’s ETF shares, if or when sold, may be worth more or less than the original cost.

Investors should carefully consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses of an exchange-traded fund (ETF) before investing. The prospectus contains this and other information about the ETF. To obtain a prospectus, contact your Financial Advisor or visit the ETF company’s website. 9Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan's investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan's flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan's investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state's own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state's tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice.
