About Us

Michael Keating is a Senior Vice President, Financial Advisor, Portfolio Management Director and Branch Manager of the Newport office. He works with clients developing Financial Plans and executing the Investment Plans. He has over 32 years of experience and has been with Morgan Stanley since 2007.

Michael refers to creating and implanting a financial plan with his clients as his favorite part of the business. To successfully implement a financial plan, a financial advisor needs to work in a collaborative environment with their client’s long-term to be able to understand the clients’ definition of financial success and continue to monitor and update the plan through life changes. This practice fits perfectly into Michael’s philosophy of treating each of his clients like family.

Prior to entering the financial industry, he graduated from Boston College with a major in Finance. His studies led him to Kidder, Peabody which is where he began his professional career. Since joining Morgan Stanley in 2007, he has been appointed a Portfolio Management Director, moved from the Springfield Mass. office to Newport in 2016 and began working with Individuals, Families, Pensions and Businesses. He helps clients with various parts of the wealth management life cycle: creation, preservation, and transfer.

Mike lives in Newport with his wife Lisa and although his two children have moved out of the house, he and his wife host their family for much of the summer months. Outside of family, Mike raced sailboats at Boston College and enjoys helping with various youth sailing regattas around Newport.

Working With You

I utilize a 4 step wealth planning process to help my clients achieve their financial goals.

1) Discovery:   I begin by discussing what matters most to you, what you hope to achieve in your financial life, and where you currently stand on the journey to your goals.

2) Analysis:  I analyze your personal and financial information, assess risk, design and then test solutions tailored to your needs.  Morgan Stanley's many resources, as well as your legal and tax advisors, are often central to this process.

3) Implementation: After presenting you with our proposals, we objectively work to implement these solutions in an efficient and prudent manner.

4) Review: The best financial plans grow and evolve with each client's unique and changing life story.  I work to continually review and update your plan as dictated by changes in your circumstances and goals.

A Tradition Of Serving Your Financial Needs

As your life evolves and grows more complex, your financial strategy and the options for implementing that strategy tends to grow more complex. Frequently, evaluating these options and choosing wisely among them may require knowledge and attention than you may have to give. In such circumstances, it makes sense to work with an experienced professional who understands your financial needs and can dedicate time and resources to help you meet them.
