Our Story and Services

For over 40 years, The Mason & Clark Group at Morgan Stanley has had the honor and privilege to help families navigate their financial world. We are positioned to help provide thoughtful advice and a personalized approach that can help give you greater confidence to pursue the financial goals to help you live your best life. We are dedicated to serving your needs promptly, professionally, and thoroughly.

We provide advice to help you define your financial objectives and develop a strategy for structuring your investments and liabilities to put you in the best position for success. Our focus is working with individuals, families, and small businesses, who value close relationships and professional advice from experienced advisors. Most people understand the importance of making thoughtful and strategic financial decisions, but roadblocks such as time pressures, business priorities, economic circumstances, and even human emotions, often occur. Our seasoned advisory team knows what it takes to help achieve results. We work with successful professionals to integrate their complex lives into a comprehensive, goal-based plan seeking to help achieve their objectives. With a deep history of enduring relationships, we focus on what is most important to you.

Working closely with you, we will develop an investment strategy focused clearly on your objectives—one that reflects:

• Your lifestyle expectations
• Cash flow needs
• Risk tolerance and
• Aspirations for your family.

Today's investment environment is increasingly complex. New opportunities are everywhere, which is why experienced investment guidance is more important than ever. If you are like most investors, you need an advisory team that has the knowledge and the skills to help you sort through and take advantage of investment opportunities that are right for you. When you look at wealth management from a long-term perspective, one thing becomes clear: It's your future, not just your money. Over time, we can help you navigate the noise and distractions of challenging markets, providing a disciplined sense of focus on what's most important—your progress toward your goals. We take the time to understand your concerns, to advise you on the investment process and to help create a strategy customized to your specific needs. Just as important, we know the value of keeping a long-term perspective on performance and following an investment strategy that can help weather varied market conditions.

Fostering long-term client relationships based on trust and integrity is the benchmark of our business philosophy. Ultimately, we want our clients to succeed in whatever they choose to endeavor from a financial perspective. If we can help you achieve your goals and mitigate risks, we have done our job. As your life and business evolve, The Mason & Clark Group at Morgan Stanley can help you stay on track across years, decades, and generations. We are honored to be ranked as a 2024 Forbes top teams, in the state of North Carolina.

Meet Mason & Clark Group

About Me

Richard E. Mason, Jr. has spent four decades in financial advising, dedicating himself to doing the right thing for every client and business owner while personalizing investment strategies to meet each client’s specific needs. He enjoys working with clients and values making clients feel comfortable with their financial strategies and potential risks they encounter.

In 2002, Richard began working with JoAnna Clark Mason, Senior Vice President, to found Mason Clark Wealth Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors, Richard and team then transitioned to Morgan Stanley in 2024. With their shared values and combined strengths, JoAnna and Richard are proud to have built a team that is rooted in being fully committed and caring toward their clients.

Richard began his financial services career in 1977 with Bache, Halsey, Stuart, and Shields Incorporated which became Prudential Securities in 1980, a predecessor firm of Wells Fargo Advisors. He is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, and later received his Master of Arts from East Carolina University. Richard maintains the Series 7, Series 63, and series 65 licenses.

Richard would say the most important part of his life is his family: his daughter Ashely, a physician’s assistant with an orthopedic practice in Raleigh, and of course, his wife, JoAnna. He loves to travel and is an avid hockey fan – in his spare time, you can catch him cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes with his family.

About Me

For over 20 years, JoAnna Clark Mason has had the honor and privilege to help families navigate their financial world. She has spent her career building lasting relationships with clients, investing in each of their stories along the way. After co-founding Mason Clark Wealth Management Group at Wells Fargo Advisors with Richard E. Mason, Jr., Managing Director - Investments, in 2002, JoAnna and her team joined Morgan Stanley in 2024. She has spent two decades working with individuals, families, and business owners to develop and help implement investment plans that align their personal values with their financial goals. She finds it a great privilege to build lasting relationships with clients, their children, and grandchildren.

JoAnna earned her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation from Duke University in 2009, with an emphasis on professional development. She maintains the series 66, series 7 and series 65 registrations and holds insurance licenses in North Carolina for Life and Health.

While she is a native Texan, JoAnna is passionate about staying involved in the Raleigh community. As a volunteer, she supports organizations that are dear to her heart – many of which concern helping women and children, including SAFEchild, Interact, and Dress for Success.

Away from the office, JoAnna enjoys spending time with her husband and partner in all things, Richard. She also loves traveling and meeting people all over the world. The more she travels, the more she learns that we are all very much the same in many wonderful ways. In her free time, JoAnna enjoys spending quality time with her grandchildren; her rescue dogs Bleu & Luna; and cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes.
