My Background

With more than 32 years at Morgan Stanley, I offer myself as a seasoned professional, able to bring all the resources that Morgan Stanley has to offer. My designation of Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM, and ongoing continuing education help enable me to recognize opportunities beyond day-to-day portfolio management.

Born in 1957 in Seattle, Washington, Boy Scouts was central to my life, culminating with the God and Country and Eagle Scout awards. Since 1975, I've resided in Phoenix and Cave Creek, Arizona. A member of the Honors Society at Phoenix College, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arizona. After running a business for five years, I joined Shearson Lehman Brothers, a predecessor of Morgan Stanley, in 1987.

Leisure activities include world travel, SCUBA diving, bass fishing, snow and water skiing, and golf. Active in the community, I am a member of the Scottsdale Sea and Ski Club, where I volunteer in community functions throughout the year.
    • Your Vision of Your Retirement is where my process begins
      We begin by discussing current and future costs of the basics, such as 1) when (if not already) you might retire, 2) what are your basic living expenses & 3) health care concerns now and in the future.

      Next – the fun part! We discuss and prioritize your bucket list – your aspirations. Perhaps a Panama Canal cruise, a cabin on a river, opening a small town coffee shop or going on an African Safari are some of your bucket list items. Working together we can develop a customized wealth strategy to help you achieve your goals.
    • Creating a Rational Road Map to Achieving Your Retirement Goals is the second step
      Your comprehensive wealth strategy includes, but goes well beyond composing a personalized asset allocation model. Integrating a Social Security benefit strategy and evaluating Medicare choices must also be included. Assessing tax strategies are another component of designing an optimal retirement income stream. As a Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM, every opportunity to boost the efficiency of your portfolio must be investigated. After all – we’re talking about a 20 to 30 year imperative!
    • Implementing and Managing Your Personal Wealth Strategy is the third step
      Markets, economics and market psychology change without notice and the stakes are VERY high. Vigilant, judicious management is critical. Fundamental to a properly constructed wealth strategy is the concept of incurring the least risk necessary to accomplish your objectives. Given a 20 to 30 year retirement period and assuming a strategy goal of maintaining a given lifestyle, the following must be considered:

      • ALL MARKETS GO UP AND DOWN. Proper diversification & deliberate, thoughtful portfolio management are mitigating factors.
      • INFLATION RISK. A 2.85% annual inflation rate = a 50% purchasing power decrease in 25 years.
      • LONGEVITY RISK. According to the SSA, you or your spouse, both aged 65, have a 47% probability of reaching age 90.
      • HEALTHCARE COSTS. Healthcare costs alone have been rising at 6.5% per year.
    • Regularly Scheduled Portfolio and Wealth Strategy Reviews are the fourth step
      Your Vision of Your Retirement Is the Intent of your Strategy! Achieving your goals requires vigilance and flexibility. Regularly calculating your withdrawal rate (how much can be withdrawn from savings each year without running out of money) is crucial. Staying in touch with you is central to my practice; indeed it is my way of staying attentive to life events that may impact your financial future, and require portfolio adjustments. Our partnership is fundamental toward helping you achieve your retirement aspirations.
