My Story

A Different Style of Wealth Management

Your wealth has meaning. It reflects your struggles and your successes, and it paves the way to your vision of the future. As your advisor and advocate, I begin our relationship by listening, with the goal of finding out what is important to you and then translating that into a strategic, highly-customized wealth management plan. I am here to help you navigate the financial challenges and opportunities you encounter in every chapter of your life, so you can spend more time focusing on what matters most—whether it be the work you enjoy, the people you love or the interests that capture your attention.

Nearly 30 years of experience in the financial services industry has taught me that the most important element of effective wealth management is establishing a genuine connection. I believe in relationships, not transactions—that means investing time in learning your story and understanding what keeps you up at night, what makes you tick, and how family dynamics influence your decision-making. It also means going the extra mile and giving my full attention to any question or concern you may have, no matter how small. By bringing care and compassion to every conversation, I have built long-term, valued relationships that span decades and even generations.

Life is dynamic so when changes occur or unexpected circumstances arise, I will be here to help make sure all aspects of your financial plan remain complementary and aligned with your goals and objectives. Managing wealth can be complex, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Knowing you have an experienced advisor and empathetic listener in your corner can help you feel more confident about your decisions and your direction, every step of the way.

Experience

Having served in the financial services industry for nearly three decades, I believe my most important job is to look out for the best interests of my clients. I accomplish this by listening to my clients’ needs and translating them into comprehensive wealth management plans that make sense and that remain flexible enough to evolve as those needs change.

To better serve my clients, I am committed to staying abreast of current market trends, tax legislation, practice management and planning opportunities. This commitment to lifelong learning often includes rigorous, specialized training and ongoing education:
    Icon Image
    Prior Experience / Education
Prior joining Morgan Stanley as a Senior Vice President and Financial Advisor, I served as a Vice President and Financial Advisor at Bank of Hawaii. Previously, I held senior executive positions at EasterSeals Hawaii, Central Pacific Bank, and First Hawaiian Bank. Earlier in my career, I worked at TRW (now Experian).

I hold a B.A. in advertising from Simmons University and a Master of Science in direct marketing from Northwestern University. A native of Hawaii, I moved back to Honolulu in 1991. When I’m not helping clients, I enjoy spending time with my family and giving back as a mentor through the Certified Financial Planner Board.
    Icon Image
    Certified Financial Planner
To further deepen and refine my technical skills and knowledge, I transitioned from the CWS designation and earned a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) designation from the College for Financial Planning in 2017. The CFP® designation is the gold standard for financial planning, While many advisors refer to themselves as financial planners, not every advisor is a CFP®. In addition to having at minimum a bachelor’s degree and three years of financial planning experience, an individual must complete the equivalent of 15 credit hours of college-level courses and pass the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards exam before becoming a CFP®. The CFP® designation also requires 30 hours of continuing education every two years.
    Icon Image
    Certified Wealth Strategist
In 2007, I achieved a Certified Wealth Strategist® (CWS®) designation from Canon’s Financial Institute. This training focused on understanding the key wealth issues faced by high net worth individuals and families and addressing these issues in the context of a tailored wealth management strategy.
    Icon Image
    Certified Divorce Financial Analyst
Over the years, I have helped many clients navigate major life changes such as changing jobs, planning for retirement, exiting a company, facing the declining health or death of a loved one, or dealing with divorce. Through these experiences, I discovered there were issues that were unique to—and often overlooked in—divorce which could have significant long-term implications for clients.

In December 2020, I earned a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® designation, which reflects my deep understanding of the financial issues related to divorce and my ability to provide strategic advice on the financial implications of this major life change. Like the CFP® designation, the CDFA® designation has robust eligibility, certification and ongoing education requirements.

My Clients

I serve a diverse clientele of business owners, retirees, and individuals or families who are planning for major milestones or facing important life transitions such as job changes, retirement planning, divorce, declining health, or the loss of a spouse. To strengthen the foundation of trust necessary for a long-term relationship, I make a point of getting to know not just the primary contact, but also their spouse, partner, children, or other loved ones. Often, my clients’ family members or friends find themselves looking to me for advice as well.

Though my clients come from all walks of life and each has a unique story, they all share some common traits:

• They appreciate the value of professional advice.
• They understand the importance of financial planning.
• They expect a level of service that goes above and beyond financial advice.
• They are seeking guidance, options and solutions that are in their best interests and tailored to their goals, priorities and values.
• They feel comfortable asking questions and know that I am here to help support them.

Individuals certified by the CFP® Board have taken the extra step to demonstrate commitment and professionalism by voluntarily submitting to the rigorous CFP® certification process that includes demanding education, examination, experience, and ethical requirements. These four cornerstones set the foundation for the CFP® professional's ability in helping clients achieve their goals. The Parks Group diverse skillsets can help clients navigate the complicated financial factors in their life. See below for more information about the CFP designation and how we can help:

    Icon Image
    Education

The CFP® professional must develop theoretical and practical financial planning knowledge by completing 2 to 3 years of comprehensive coursework at an institution of higher learning approved by the CFP® Board. Once obtaining the CFP® trademark, their education does not stop, as continued education is part of the recertification process.

    Icon Image
    Examination

The CFP® professional must pass the 7 hour comprehensive Certification Exam, which tests abilities to apply financial planning knowledge to real-life situations. The exam covers the financial planning process, tax planning, employee benefits and retirement planning, estate planning, investment management and insurance.

    Icon Image
    Experience

All CFP® professionals are required to complete several years of experience related to financial planning services prior to earning the right to use the CFP® trademarks.

    Icon Image
    Ethics

The CFP® professional is obligated to uphold the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism, and diligence as outline in the CFP® Board's Code of Ethics. The Rules of Conduct require the CFP® professional to put the client's interest first at all times.

9Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice.
