For me, retirement planning is more than providing my clients with investment advice; it means helping them maintain and secure the financial independence they’ve worked so hard to achieve. Working with my clients as they progress to and achieve retirement is the foundation for my practice, and something I am highly passionate about.

As a Chartered Retirement Plan Specialist (CRPS®), holder of the C(k)P designation, Corporate Retirement Director and Financial Wellness Director with Morgan Stanley, I cover the full retirement spectrum – working with businesses to meet their retirement plan objectives as well as helping individuals and families manage and secure their financial futures.

My unique blend of skills and education, combined with my work with business owners, retirement plan sponsors, and Private Wealth clients, gives me a broad perspective and background to address an array of financial issues.

My Bio

Kathy M. Pearson started her career at Smith Barney in 2006 in Clarkston, Washington. She then moved to Spokane, Washington, in 2008, where she began managing her own book of business. Her practice focuses primarily on retirement planning for individuals and their families, businesses and business owners, nonprofits, and foundations.

Kathy completed the Chartered Retirement Plan Specialist curriculum, currently holding the CRPS® designation and serves as a Corporate Retirement Director with Morgan Stanley. Kathy is also a Financial Wellness Director and an Alternative Investments Director at Morgan Stanley. In May 2019, Kathy attended The Retirement Advisor University, through the UCLA Anderson School of Management Executive Education program, earning the C(k)P designation. Kathy maintains her FINRA Series 7, Series 63 and Series 65 licenses, and is also life insurance licensed in Washington and Idaho.

Most recently, Kathy was named to the 2025 Forbes Top Women Wealth Advisors Best-In-State. Selection for this list is based on comprehensive criteria including firm nomination, industry experience and best practices.

Kathy currently lives in Spokane with her family, and spends her spare time biking, hiking, reading books, enjoying friends and most of all spending time with her family. Kathy is heavily involved with her community and is passionate about devoting her time to local causes. Kathy currently dedicates time to the Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation, where she started serving on the finance committee in 2018. She then joined its Board of Directors in 2019 and also serves on the Executive Committee as President of the board. She was also on the Board at Ronald McDonald House from 2009-2014, where she helped establish the Teen Board.

Meet My Team

About Penny Dillon

Penny is a Wealth Management Associate that has been with Morgan Stanley since 2007. Penny had the opportunity to start working with Kathy in 2009, and has not looked back. She ensures a seamless client experience by facilitating a smooth account opening and transfer process and partners with Kathy to address more complex client issues and financial goals planning for our clients. While Penny is often the first line of contact for our clients, she also coordinates our operational responsibilities and prepares client account proposals and performance review reports.

Penny currently holds her FINRA Series 7, Series 63 and Series 66 licenses. She began her career in the financial services industry in 2005 and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration - Finance from Washington State University. Prior to working at Morgan Stanley, Penny was an Account Services Specialist at M Holdings Securities, Inc., in Portland, OR.

Penny was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and currently lives in Spokane, WA with her husband and children. In her free time, Penny enjoys attending her son’s school and sporting events as well as spending time at Loon Lake in the summer.
