Our Team at Morgan Stanley Kansas City Branch

About Douglas Adams

My primary objectives as Market Manager is to partner with our local Financial Advisors, delivering resources and support so they can achieve the best possible outcomes for their clients. We know successful FAs are mostly self-motivated. You don’t need someone looking over your shoulder and wasting time for things that aren’t relevant to you and your clients. We believe FAs thrive when their leadership team gives them the tools and help needed to deliver the exceptional results to existing clients, provide them with access to any comprehensive knowledge and resources needed to help expand their books, and surround them with supportive peers.

We have high standards in place and our philosophy is to bring in good people, rely on them to lead with exceptional ideas, and in the end to provide world class service to their clients. In addition, we have a local culture of stability, and I’m an example of that, having spent my entire financial services career with Morgan Stanley in Kansas City. I like to think I know our firm and this market inside out and that insight provides a distinctive resource for our FAs.

On a personal note, I grew up in a small town in southwest Missouri and attended Baker University, planning to pursue a career in teaching and coaching. However, I fell in love with finance after taking a few business courses and having my dad encourage me to invest some of my summer earnings with the help of a Financial Advisor. I graduated with a degree in Business Finance in May of 2001 and began my career at Morgan Stanley 3 weeks later as a Financial Advisor. After building a book and spending 12 years as an Advisor I moved into my first management role as our local sales manager, and was promoted to Market Manager in 2020.

I live in Prairie Village with my three daughters and an 80-pound Golden Doodle named Winston. Having a high schooler, a middle schooler, and child in elementary school means that right now I’m spending much of my spare time keeping up with 3 PTAs and multiple teacher emails. I am dedicated fan of the Chiefs and Royals and I’ve been involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters for many years. When I have time, I enjoy staying active on the tennis or pickleball court.

“We know the pressure that comes with running somebody else’s money. We think it’s essential to be surrounded by a supportive team that understands the obstacles you’re facing and who are willing to do everything they can to help you succeed.”

6The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of sustainable investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because sustainability criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria. Diversification does not guarantee a profit or protect against loss in a declining financial market.
