My Story

Planning your financial future should take the form of just that: a plan. As your Financial Advisor, I ensure that blueprint is clearly defined, informed by research, and personalized for you. Not only that, I regularly analyze your portfolio’s performance and make adjustments to reflect changes in your life and the economic landscape. Whether you’re preparing for your retirement, saving for a child’s education, or trying to manage your taxes, I can help you achieve your goals.

I have a decade of experience as a Certified Financial Planner™. Earning the CFP® certification was as rigorous as getting my MBA, but I emerged with the credibility and know-how to incorporate all aspects of my clients lives into their wealth management plans.

As a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley, I maintain the resources and breadth of a global institution, but I’m also vested with a deep understanding of our local community. I raised my kids right here in town and enjoy helping my fellow Ann Arbor area residents.

Joseph Rey is a Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley. With over 12 years of experience in the financial services industry, Joe focuses on financial planning and comprehensive wealth management for executives, business owners, software engineers, and families in Ann Arbor.

Joe earned an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Though this is where he began honing his financial planning acumen, he developed a broader predilection for analysis and structured processes from his previous experience as an automotive industry executive. After starting his financial advising career in 2008, Joe came on board with Morgan Stanley in 2013.

Careful, comprehensive research guides Joe’s approach to investing. He complements this in-depth analysis with an intense focus on the Financial Planning process. For each client, Joe develops a personalized and clearly-defined investing strategy that he monitors and adjusts as needed to help keep his clients on track. Whether you're starting to save for your child’s education or planning for an approaching retirement, Joe uses his diligent work ethic and decade of experience to help you meet your objectives for the future, be it near or far.

Outside of the office, Joe and his wife reside in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After climbing the ranks of the Boy Scouts himself, he guided his son’s troop and still remains active in the organization.

Clients

My clients come from a range of backgrounds and professions: some are automotive industry executives just entering retirement, others are software engineers just starting a family. Whatever your profession or age, I work with my clients over a period of many years, helping them plan for each stage of their lives, and often, the lives of their children as well.

Whether you’ve been my client for ten years or six months, my commitment remains the same: to do all the work necessary to manage your financial portfolio for you, so you can focus on other aspects of your life––your job, family, or other passions.

I keep my practice intimate. In part, my diligent, research-driven working method demands a select client-list; but I also enjoy fostering close relationships within my community. I’ve lived in Ann Arbor for many years. Helping my neighbors achieve their financial goals gives me a genuine sense of satisfaction.

Working With You

When it comes to planning your financial life, I believe in function over form. I don’t use cookie-cutter approaches and vague, flashy language like some other financial advisors. Instead, I develop a deep understanding of you and your life objectives. Then, I translate these objectives into a personalized set of financial goals in such varied disciplines as retirement planning, portfolio management, estate planning, and asset preservation strategies.

The next step is to create a clear, structured process to help work toward your goals. The kind of process I create is something that can be regularly measured for performance and adjusted as necessary.

With the resources of Morgan Stanley at my disposal, I have access to some of the most up-to-date research and analysis, as well as some of the best trading platforms in the industry. During our check-in meetings, I’ll help make sure you to get a sense not just of the overall health of your portfolio, but also of the numbers and reasoning behind it.

8Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
