My Story and Services

Joseph H. Fink works with mission-driven professionals, families, and community leaders whose financial lives often do not fit a traditional mold. His clients are thoughtful, accomplished people who care deeply about their work, their families, and the communities they serve. They value a financial advisor who can help bring clarity to complexity, translate financial decisions into practical next steps, and help them build a plan that reflects what matters most.

Joseph’s work centers on integrated financial planning. He helps clients coordinate retirement planning, investments, tax-aware strategies, long-term care considerations, estate planning strategies, and life transitions into a cohesive strategy. His goal is to help simplify the moving parts and help clients make informed decisions with greater confidence.

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, Joseph believes every strong advisory relationship should be grounded in a thoughtful financial plan. He also holds the Certified in Long-Term Care designation and the Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® designation, reflecting his focus on helping clients and families prepare for both expected and unexpected transitions.

Joseph believes successful relationships are built through confidence, regular communication, and a deep understanding of each client’s life. As circumstances change, he works closely with clients to help ensure their financial plans continue to reflect their goals, priorities, and values.

His commitment to service is rooted in family legacy. After retiring as a colonel from the U.S. Army, Joseph’s grandfather became a stockbroker serving fellow servicemen and their families. His mother continues that tradition as a financial advisor to multigenerational families and instilled in Joseph a strong sense of responsibility to the people he serves.

Joseph graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from Goucher College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. A two-time collegiate equestrian national champion, he was inducted into Goucher College’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021. He remains active in philanthropic organizations, including the Elijah Cummings Youth Program and The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore.

Joseph and his partner, Craig, enjoy theater—especially musical theater—and the cultural richness of the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. region.

Our Approach

We believe the best way to engage in a meaningful working relationship is by first understanding who you are and what matters most to you. Our process is designed to help clarify your financial goals, tailor our services to help meet your unique needs, and guide you through each step with confidence.

    Icon Image
    Step 1: Getting Acquainted

We start with an informal conversation to understand your goals, values, priorities, and what you want your wealth to accomplish—while also making sure there's a strong mutual fit. If we mutually decide to move forward, our team will request key information so we can prepare thoughtfully for a second meeting.

    Icon Image
Step 2: Analysis & Plan Development

Prior to our second meeting, we analyze your provided information, and we draft an initial personalized roadmap that connects your goals to clear recommendations—across investments, retirement, tax-aware planning, and legacy considerations.

    Icon Image
    Step 3: Strategy Consultation

We review your plan together, confirm priorities, and align the strategies and next steps that best support your objectives. We also walk through the "why" behind each recommendation—so you feel clear, confident, and in control of the decisions ahead.

    Icon Image
    Step 4: Implementation

In consultation with you, we help open and/or transfer accounts, implement the agreed-upon recommendations, and coordinate with your CPA and attorney when appropriate.

    Icon Image
    Step 5: Onboarding Orientation

Within 30-60 days after implementation, we meet to review initial statements, ensure everything is organized, confirm online access and tools, and set the cadence for ongoing reviews.

    Icon Image
Step 6: Ongoing Monitoring & Advice

As your life evolves, we stay engaged—monitoring progress, adjusting as needed, and providing proactive guidance and education for you and your family.

14Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan's investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan's flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan's investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state's own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state's tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
