My Story and Services

Jennifer Olson is a Senior Vice President and Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley in St. Paul, Minn. Known for her unflagging integrity and ability to build strong, longlasting relationships, Jenn has more than 20 years of experience in financial services.
Jenn focuses on creating custom, comprehensive financial plans for every client and managing those plans meticulously to help them achieve their financial goals within their desired time horizon.

While Jenn works with a broad cross-section of clients, she primarily serves high-net-worth individuals, generational families, retirement plan investors and women investors, particularly those dealing with the complex financial decisions concerning separation and divorce.

A self-proclaimed "people person," Jenn cares deeply about her clients. In fact, in her teens she thought she would have a career caring for others. She majored in psychology and family studies at St Olaf College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003.

While in college, Jenn interned at Piper Jaffray, which sparked her interest in finance. After graduation, an executive at the firm who respected her solid work ethic and ability to get along with all types of individuals, suggested she continue working for the company. She took his advice. That decision set her off on a fruitful path from which she has never wavered.

Jenn began her career in finance as a Wealth Advisory Associate, working in that role for nine years – four at Piper Jaffray and five at UBS, which bought Piper Jaffray's brokerage business in 2006. In 2012, she joined Morgan Stanley as a Financial Advisor and since then has steadily built a strong following of clients she thoroughly enjoys serving. She has since been promoted to Senior Vice President and a Century Club Member at Morgan Stanley.

In 2025, Jenn has been recognized by Forbes as Top Women Wealth Advisors Best-In-State for her advisory service!

Retirement Planning

Jennifer painstakingly creates a custom, comprehensive financial plan for every client. This is the document that identifies all of a client's goals and the path that she recommends clients follow in order to achieve them over time.

To create your plan, Jenn conducts an extensive interview to obtain a complete picture of your financial life. From there, she carefully analyzes this information and, using all the tools available to her at Morgan Stanley, creates a financial plan.

An excellent communicator and listener, Jenn then meets with you to describe the financial plan in an easy-to-understand language and gladly answers all your questions, clearly and succinctly.

One of the keys to succeed with your financial plan is your willingness to stick with it over time. Jenn strongly believes well-informed clients are likely to remain committed to their plan through all market and economic environments.

As your needs and goals change, Jenn will recommend alterations to your plan to help keep it on track to your desired financial destination.

Do You Know What Retirement Will Cost You?

A Core component of any wealth management framework is retirement planning. Making it increasingly important are longer life expectancies, rising health care costs, uncertainty tied to Social Security and continued changes in corporate retirement plans.

Goals Planning System (GPS)

The Morgan Stanley Goals Planning System (GPS) strives to guard against more than just market volatility. We take other important factors into account.

  • Judgement- The possibility that you will retire too early, spend more than your investments can sustain or fail to withdraw less from your retirement funds when markets turn choppy.
  • Behavioral- The possibility that you will sell holdings out of panic when markets decline, or in some cases chase gains out of exuberance when markjets rise- in other words, the possibility that you will buy high and sell low.
  • Longevity- The possibility you will outlive your assets

Women Without Limits

Women are uniquely challenged when seeking financial security. They earn less than men. Since many leave the workforce during their career to raise families or care for aging parents, they accumulate less than their male counterparts. But that's not all. Women have longer life expectancies than men so without proper planning they are more at risk of outliving their assets. How can women investors ensure their assets are working hard for them?

I believe the answer starts with education. Many women investors are intimidated by the complexities of investing. I address this challenge by devoting a great deal of time to educating women about the nuances of investing. Additionally, I take the time to listen carefully to my clients concerns and needs. I am extremely passionate about empowering women investors to become knowledgeable and confident in pursuit of their financial dreams.

2Alternative Investments are speculative and include a high degree of risk. An investor could lose all or a substantial amount of his/her investment. Alternative investments are appropriate only for qualified, long-term investors who are willing to forgo liquidity and put capital at risk for an indefinite period of time.

4Structured Investments are complex and not appropriate for all investors. An investment in structured investments involves risks. These risks can include but are not limited to: fluctuations in the price, level or yield of underlying asset(s), interest rates, currency values and credit quality, substantial loss of principal, limits on participation in appreciation of underlying asset(s), limited liquidity, credit risk, and/or conflicts of interest. Many structured investments do not pay interest or guarantee a return above principal at maturity. Investors should read the security’s offering documentation prior to making an investment decision.

5Investing in the market entails the risk of market volatility. The value of all types of investments may increase or decrease over varying time periods. The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of sustainable or impact investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because sustainability and impact criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria. Diversification does not guarantee a profit or protect against loss in a declining financial market.
