About Douglas Rule
Originally from Jackson, Doug grew up in Starkville and is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance. He also had the privilege of attending the Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University. Doug began his career in the banking industry, but eventually took an interest in public service and went on to spend eight years as the Deputy State Treasurer for the state of Mississippi. He ultimately made the transition to financial services, joining Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor in 1997.
Along with business partner John Garbo, Doug made the move to Morgan Stanley in 2008. The two have been business partners since 1999, with Doug serving as Senior Vice President of The Garbo/Rule Group. He has also held the title of Branch Manager of the Morgan Stanley Ridgeland office since 2016.
Doug and his wife, Olive, live in Ridgeland and have two grown children. Their son, Wesley, graduated from the University of Mississippi and is currently a student at Reformed Theological Seminary. Their daughter, Olivia, graduated from Millsaps College and is married and living in the metro area. Away from the office, Doug is very active with his church—First Baptist Church of Jackson—where he has served in a number of roles over the years, including Chairman of the Deacons in 2017.
