At Wharton Business School, in my Game Theory class, I learned about the Agency Problem, where there is conflict of interest inherent in any relationship when one party is expected to act in another's best interests. Unfortunately, this problem exists in many relationships not because of any malintent, but because of over-reliance on marketing teams and lack of true understanding of the risks and trade-offs.
For families with significant wealth, it's even more important to seek out advisors who will act in the family's best interest. I follow a disciplined process when I filter investments for my clients as I believe that trust is earned over a long period of time.
I am an International Client Advisor and Portfolio Manager with Morgan Stanley in Manhattan, New York. Before I became an Advisor, I worked on the institutional side in Sales, Marketing, and Structuring. My experiences through the 1998 Asian flu/LTCM bankruptcy, bursting of the 2000 dot com bubble, 9/11, recession of 2004, the Great Financial crisis of 2008, European Credit crisis 2011, and COVID 2020 have shaped my investment philosophy about how important it is to formulate a macroeconomic view and to be aware of the cycles in equities and fixed income markets. I honed a disciplined process managing investments and lending for high net worth executives/founders and their families with a razor focus on risk, sharpened by over two decades of experience in both the capital and derivatives markets. I also work closely with estate and trust advisors with specific cross border experience to facilitate structures for multi-generational wealth transfer and other client goals.
I immigrated from Taiwan when I was eight and truly understand the challenges of first generation immigrants between establishing ourselves to dealings with parents who don't understand US culture, investments or taxes. Fluent in mandarin, I work closely with first generation immigrant families whose patriarch or matriarch remain in China, Taiwan, or Hong Kong.
Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, I was a Director at BNP Paribas and Bear Stearns responsible for Structured Products Origination and Sales. My clients were regional broker/dealers and Financial Advisors.
