Our Story and Services

At The Hansen Wealth Management Group, we work with business owners and entrepreneurs who run complex companies across industries — from technology and life sciences to construction, distribution, and specialty services. What they share isn't a sector, but a reality: when your business accelerates, your financial decisions become more interconnected, more consequential, and harder to manage in isolation.

That's where we come in.

Our team helps owners navigate the full lifecycle of their business — growth, capital strategy, liquidity, and exit — drawing on decades of experience advising entrepreneurs through each stage. From expansion financing and strategic reviews to preparing for a sale, merger, or IPO, we understand how these moments unfold in real time. Just as important, we know the personal weight they hold for your family's future — and we help ensure your financial strategy reflects both the demands of the business and the life beyond the balance sheet.

As part of Morgan Stanley, we bring the depth of a global firm to the very specific needs of closely held businesses. Our clients benefit from access to corporate and investment banking resources, lending solutions, workplace benefits through Morgan Stanley at Work, and a broad platform of non-correlated investment opportunities, including alternatives. But the value we provide isn't just access — it's knowing how, why, and when to apply the right resources to support each stage of your life.

At the end of the day, what matters most of all is how we work. Our team prioritizes clarity, responsiveness, and follow-through. Business owners don't have the luxury of waiting days for answers, and neither do their decisions. When questions arise, we engage quickly, communicate directly, and stay involved as circumstances change. The result is a working relationship built around continuity, accountability, and advice that keeps pace with the business itself.

Our Focus

You didn't get to this level by winging it, and your wealth doesn't thrive by chance. That's why we provide the tools, strategies, and coordination to help handle virtually every challenge — before they become problems. Here's how we support business owners and entrepreneurs:

Exit & Liquidity Planning
Preparing for a sale, merger, succession, or public offering isn't something you start at the last minute. We help owners map out the process well in advance, focusing on after-tax outcomes and long-term financial goals so that when the time comes, decisions are deliberate, strategic, and aligned with personal priorities.

Value Creation
Maximizing enterprise value requires more than operational effort — it takes strategic planning across revenue, profitability, and growth initiatives. We help owners identify levers that strengthen the business, seeking to help position it for optimal outcomes whenever a transition occurs.

Capital & Corporate Resources
From lending solutions and growth capital to the full capabilities of Morgan Stanley's Investment Bank and Morgan Stanley at Work, our clients can gain access to the resources they need, no matter their scale.

Advanced Wealth & Tax Planning
We integrate investments, estate planning, and multigenerational wealth transfer strategies to help coordinate your finances across business and personal wealth. In other words, we help ensure that major events in the business don't create unintended consequences in personal finances, and that every decision aligns with long-term goals.

Workplace & Founder Solutions
High-growth companies and founders have unique needs. We help navigate equity compensation, employee benefits, and founder-specific challenges, providing resources that help support both the business and the people who drive it.

Exit Planning

If you are contemplating an exit from your business, there are a multitude of personal, business, tax, estate, and financial factors involved in making this important decision. Planning ahead with the help of your professional advisors is essential for mitigating risk, enhancing business value, and ensuring that the exit helps you achieve your most important goals.

Meet Hansen Wealth Management Group

About Me

Matt Hansen is an Executive Director and Financial Advisor with The Hansen Wealth Management Group at Morgan Stanley. For more than two decades, he has helped business owners and entrepreneurs navigating the most consequential stages of their companies — from periods of accelerated growth to liquidity events, recapitalizations, and exits.

A graduate of Southern Utah University with a degree in Finance and Marketing, Matt began his career in financial services in 2002, building a foundation that spans operational, advisory, and executive leadership roles. Over the years, he held senior positions at LPL Financial, a private wealth management RIA, and UBS, where he served as Senior Vice President before joining Morgan Stanley in 2025. Today, he not only leverages the depth of Morgan Stanley’s global platform — including access to corporate and investment banking resources, lending strategies, and alternative investments; he also earned leading industry certifications like CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® and CERTIFIED EXIT PLANNING ADVISOR® to provide comprehensive support for clients across business and personal wealth.

Matt’s approach is disciplined, coordinated, and forward-looking. He works closely with founders to evaluate capital strategy, tax implications, succession structures, and post-liquidity planning well before a transaction is on the horizon. By collaborating with internal firm specialists and external advisors, he helps ensure that growth initiatives, ownership transitions, and estate strategies are aligned — minimizing unintended consequences and maximizing long-term value. Above all, Matt prioritizes clarity and responsiveness, recognizing that business owners need advice that keeps pace with the realities of running a company.

Outside the office, Matt lives in the Rancho Santa Fe area with his wife and three children. He served for seven years as a board member for New Haven Youth and Family Services and has a long-standing commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen families and the broader community.
