About Allen Schmidt

Joining the team in 2022, Al adds 30+ years of financial services experience to the group with a background in traditional banking, lending, investments, and financial planning. A sole practitioner since focusing his career on wealth management with Firstar Investment Services, Inc. in 1992, Al became the first investment specialist dedicated to Firstar Bank's (now U.S. Bank) private banking group in Madison.

Consolidation within the financial services industry brought Al and his clients to Piper Jaffray & Co. in 2001 where he became a friend and colleague of Carlyn Hensen. Building upon his early success, Al concentrated on developing, implementing, and monitoring custom portfolio strategies with the goal of assisting clients in achieving their long-term financial objectives. Playing a small role in the realization of a college education for a child or grandchild, planning a retirement with less worry, enjoying the fruit of a lifetime of hard work or leaving a lasting legacy are all motivations for Al and a source of great personal pride.

Further industry consolidation resulted in UBS acquiring Piper Jaffray in 2006. After extensive due diligence for a firm aligned with his own core values, Al, along with Carlyn and Tanya made the decision to join Morgan Stanley on the same day in the summer of 2010. Now, years later, he has united with his long-time colleagues as a contributing partner of Capitol Bay Wealth Management Group at Morgan Stanley. Together, they leverage their individual talents to form a highly skilled and experienced team.

Growing up in Madison and a lifelong resident of Dane County Al currently resides in Mount Horeb with his wife Cheryl. He enjoys giving back to his community by serving as a member of the finance committee and as an Executive Board of Director for the Mount Horeb Community Foundation.

Outside the office, Al enjoys the collector car hobby and is proud of his nationally shown Buick Riviera collection. A passion for Blues music keeps him busy, attending live performances on many weekends throughout the year.

4When Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC, its affiliates and Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors and Private Wealth Advisors (collectively, “Morgan Stanley”) provide “investment advice” regarding a retirement or welfare benefit plan account, an individual retirement account or a Coverdell education savings account (“Retirement Account”), Morgan Stanley is a “fiduciary” as those terms are defined under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, as amended (“ERISA”), and/or the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (the “Code”), as applicable. 6The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) aware investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because ESG criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria. Diversification does not guarantee a profit or protect against loss in a declining financial market.
