About Joseph Matthews
With over 30 of experience in the financial services industry, Joe assists trustees and individuals with creating investment processes that are consistent with their risk tolerance, time horizon and liquidity needs. As a Senior Institutional Consultant, Joe is designated by Morgan Stanley Consulting Group to address the needs of institutional clients. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Joe was a branch manager and Sr. Vice President at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. While there, he successfully partnered with several teams of advisors to serve institutional clients. Similarly, Morgan Stanley has named Joe a Strategic Partner. In that role, Joe helps other financial advisors address the needs of high net worth and institutional clients. Additionally, he has been recognized several times by On Wall Street magazine as a Top 100 Branch Manager in the United States as recently as 2018.
Joe graduated from Fairfield University with a B.S. in Accounting and an M.A. in Organizational Communication. He has earned both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) professional designations. Joe is currently an adjunct professor at Fairfield University teaching courses in Economics. He has taught at New York University and Pace University. The experience and skills gained from over 17 years of teaching at the university level help him with educating his clients about investment strategies, asset allocation, capital markets and the importance of using definable and repeatable methods of portfolio management. In conjunction with his responsibilities and professional designations, he is a member of CFA Society New York, CFA Society Stamford (CT), the Association of Professional Investment Consultants (APIC), the Government Finance Officers Association of Connecticut (GFOA-CT) and the American Economic Association (AEA).
Joe has written a bi-monthly business column for seven Connecticut newspapers that appeared in print as well as online. He is also a contributor to the APIC Oracle, an online newspaper published by the Association of Professional Investment Consultants for its members. In 2019, he became a member of the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW). He actively supports the Red Cross and has been involved with numerous charitable organizations over the years. He currently is a judge for SIFMA's InvestWrite program, reads to grammar school children in public schools in Bridgeport, CT with the School Volunteer Association and serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Stratford (CT) Visiting Nurses Association.
Joe and his wife Deborah have three grown children and four grandchildren.
