My Mission Statement
Making sure every client is the most important person in my practice through regular and easygoing conversations, responsive financial planning and dedicated personal service.
My Story and Services
As a financial advisor who built my practice from the ground up, I recognize the hard work and dedication it takes to be successful and create wealth. I also realize that it takes strong relationships and trusting conversations to protect and grow that wealth. I started in the business 25 years ago as a young college graduate full of enthusiasm and continue to bring an eagerness and curiosity into every meeting and phone call, wanting to know as much about what is going on in my client’s lives as they do about their investments. Such regular communication helps ensure their financial plan and long-term objectives remain on track.
After beginning my career at Prudential Securities in San Francisco, I soon moved on to PaineWebber/UBS where I grew my business in partnership with a fellow FA before establishing my own practice in Sonoma County. I joined Morgan Stanley in 2011 and remain focused today on the select client relationships, treated as close friendships, that I have developed over the course of my career.
Drawing on the vast resources of Morgan Stanley, I create customized financial plans and investment portfolios for each of my individual clients and their families. My primary objective is to balance the potential for wealth creation with careful risk management. Through the firm’s Investing with Impact platform, my clients can align their portfolios with the values and societal issues they support.
I am a Sonoma County native who grew up in Petaluma and earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Finance from the California State University at Chico. In addition to working with clients, I have been an active member of the Kiwanis Club in Santa Rosa for over 20 years and was previously a coach and administrator for youth soccer in the area. Today, I live in Petaluma with my wife and two children.

Working with You

Success comes from building a strong relationship with you and that takes being a good listener as well as establishing a connection that goes beyond your finances. While I can crunch numbers and model different investment scenarios, my style is more easygoing and conversational. I will explain financial matters in ways you can understand and make sure we’re both on the same page before updating your financial plan, rebalancing your retirement portfolio, or setting up a trust.
My role in the relationship is to understand what keeps you up at night and talk you through how together we can effectively address those concerns. For new clients, we cover a lot of ground in our introductory meeting, establishing where you are now and where you're trying to get to. We will discuss your past investing experience, what worked and what didn’t, as well as determine if the aspirations and expectations for your wealth are realistic and achievable. Human emotions can get the best of us, especially when the stock market gets bumpy and ominous headlines in the media make you want to sell. By gaining clarity on your goals on the front end, I can help steer you away from making the rash, emotional decisions that could detour your plans to fund your grandchild’s college education or buy that vacation home.
Financial planning is the key to all the work we do together. It
guides the construction and monitoring of diversified investment portfolios and how we complement your investments with other solutions such as estate planning, life insurance and charitable giving. You’ve worked hard to create wealth and we do everything with an eye toward minimizing your taxes through tax-efficient investing, managing qualified income in your tax-deferred 401(k) and IRA accounts as well as through the use of tax-free bonds.

My Clients

I work primarily with retirees or those nearing retirement across all walks of life, from doctors and bankers to small business owners in the local community. Many of my clients have also inherited significant wealth which can create unique challenges where open communication is essential.
I am also excited to be working with multiple generations of many families, learning about and addressing the opportunities and risks unique to each life stage. Legacy planning is a core part of these relationships as I help the patriarch or matriarch of an extended family properly position and allocate their assets so that future generations can maintain and grow their own wealth.

1When Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC, its affiliates and Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors and Private Wealth Advisors (collectively, “Morgan Stanley”) provide “investment advice” regarding a retirement or welfare benefit plan account, an individual retirement account or a Coverdell education savings account (“Retirement Account”), Morgan Stanley is a “fiduciary” as those terms are defined under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, as amended (“ERISA”), and/or the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (the “Code”), as applicable. When Morgan Stanley provides investment education, takes orders on an unsolicited basis or otherwise does not provide “investment advice”, Morgan Stanley will not be considered a “fiduciary” under ERISA and/or the Code. For more information regarding Morgan Stanley’s role with respect to a Retirement Account, please visit www.morganstanley.com/disclosures/dol. Tax laws are complex and subject to change. Morgan Stanley does not provide tax or legal advice. Individuals are encouraged to consult their tax and legal advisors (a) before establishing a Retirement Account, and (b) regarding any potential tax, ERISA and related consequences of any investments or other transactions made with respect to a Retirement Account. Individuals should consult their tax advisor for matters involving taxation and tax planning and their attorney for matters involving trust and estate planning, charitable giving, philanthropic planning and other legal matters.
2Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC (“Morgan Stanley”), its affiliates and Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors and Private Wealth Advisors do not provide tax or legal advice. Clients should consult their tax advisor for matters involving taxation and tax planning and their attorney for matters involving trust and estate planning and other legal matters.
3Morgan Stanley Wealth Management is the trade name of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC, a registered broker-dealer in the United States.
4Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
5Municipal bonds may not be appropriate for all investors. Income generated from an investment in a municipal bond is generally exempt from federal income taxes. Some income may be subject to state and local taxes and to the federal alternative minimum tax. Capital gains, if any, are subject to tax.
Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC (“Morgan Stanley”) and its Financial Advisors and Private Wealth Advisors do not provide any tax/legal advice. Consult your own tax/legal advisor before making any tax or legal-related investment decisions.
6Annuities are offered in conjunction with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC’s licensed insurance agency affiliates.
7An investment in an exchange-traded fund (ETF) involves risks similar to those of investing in a broadly based portfolio of equity securities traded on exchange in the relevant securities market, such as market fluctuations caused by such factors as economic and political developments, changes in interest rates and perceived trends in stock prices. The investment return and principal value of ETF investments will fluctuate, so that an investor’s ETF shares, if or when sold, may be worth more or less than the original cost.
Investors should carefully consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses of an exchange-traded fund (ETF) before investing. The prospectus contains this and other information about the ETF. To obtain a prospectus, contact your Financial Advisor or visit the ETF company’s website. Please read the prospectus carefully before investing.
