My Story and Services

As a financial advisor, I work with individual investors, nonprofit organizations, and endowment clients to provide risk analysis, tactical portfolio modeling, Investment Policy Statement reviews, and financial forecasting for retirement, education, and estate planning needs. As a Certified Financial Planner® and Certified Investment Management Analyst®, I have completed extensive training that requires a high level of competency, ethics, and professionalism including Wharton’s UPenn CIMA® program.

I have earned the Morgan Stanley Investing with Impact Director designation. I have joined an exclusive group of advisors who have obtained this designation. This designation reflects my commitment to my clients and demonstrates my skills in helping clients generate market rate returns while demonstrating positive environmental and/or social impact.

I began my financial services career at Morgan Stanley in 2001, graduating in the top quintile of the firm's Client Development Program. Before entering the financial industry, I worked in the nonprofit and government relations fields. I have also been a guest on The Wall Street Journal's MarketWatch Radio and lectured at the International Monetary Fund regarding strategic financial planning.

I graduated magna cum laude from The George Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, concentrating in finance. I reside in Cabin John, Maryland, with my wife, Savy, and my daughters, Tegan and Soriya. In my free time, I enjoy traveling with my family, golfing, and trying new food.

Retirement Navigation Process

If you and your family were having a discussion three years from today, and you were to look back over those three years to today, what has to have happened, both personally and professionally, for you to feel happy about your progress?

It's an important question to answer because it helps identify your family's Dangers, Opportunities, and Strengths. Over the years, our team has developed and refined the 8-Step Retirement Navigation Process (RNP).

It's specifically designed to address your retirement needs and develop a comprehensive plan to help deliver clarity during your retirement journey.
    Icon Image
    Step 1: Assets
Your assets may include, 401(K), 403(b), 457 plans, lump sum pensions, real estate, investment accounts, bank accounts, stock options, stock purchase plans, and business assets.
    Icon Image
    Step 2: Liabilities
In general, we advise our clients to be debt free in retirement. Before you retire, it's important to examine all your liabilities.
    Icon Image
    Step 3: Income
In retirement, you'll likely need to generate enough income to maintain your current lifestyle. You may have multiple sources of fixed income including pension payments and Social Security. You may also have other sources of fixed income as well during retirement.
    Icon Image
    Step 4: Expenses
Knowing what your expenses will be in retirement is critical. During the accumulation years of your life, savings rates are the key to success. During retirement however, withdrawal rates matter the most.

Our technology can help you manage and track your expenses to help make sure your plan remains successful throughout retirement.
    Icon Image
    Step 5: Risk Management
It's important to make sure your plan has the proper guardrails tot help keep you and your family on track.

Some of these guardrails include insurance planning. We recommend reviewing your term, whole life, or long term care insurance needs prior to retirement.

Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC offers insurance products in conjunction with its licensed insurance agency affiliates.

Since long-term care insurance is medically underwritten, you should not cancel your current policy until your new policy is in force. A change to your current policy may incur charges, fees and costs. A new policy may require a medical exam. Actual premiums may vary from any initial quotation.

Guarantees and contractual obligations are backed by the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company.

    Step 6: Estate Planning Strategies
As you approach retirement, it's important to make sure your estate planning strategy is aligned with your investment and financial plans.

You may consider hiring an estate attorney who can help design wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and medical directives.
    Icon Image
    Step 7: Assembling Your Team
Before and during retirement, it's important your personal tax advisor, personal estate planning attorney, and financial advisor communicate regularly and operate as a virtual team on your behalf. Your virtual team should meet with you and your family at least annually.
    Icon Image
    Step 8: Continued Monitoring
Approaching and during retirement, it's important to check up on your investment and financial plans to make sure they are on track.

Our technology can help track and manage your plans to help ensure they are successful throughout retirement.
