How We Work Together

Clear communication is the foundation of our process. We start by asking questions—about your goals, time horizon, and risk tolerance—and most importantly, we listen. This collaborative, ongoing process is designed to help us understand your unique circumstances so we can work toward what matters most to you, both now and in the future.

    Icon Image
    Step 1 – Discovery

Our relationship begins by getting to know you—your goals, priorities, and current financial picture. We'll talk about your assets, credit, health, and liquidity needs to understand your full financial landscape. Together, we'll outline objectives based on your timeline, risk tolerance, and long-term plans.

    Icon Image
    Step 2 – Creation

Next, we build a customized road map to help grow and protect your wealth. We'll explore strategies tailored to your goals—retirement planning, healthcare, estate planning, and more. This plan is supported by an investment strategy designed to help pursue strong performance while aligning with your risk profile.

    Icon Image
    Step 3 – Act

With your plan in place, we move into action. We guide you through implementation, factoring in life events like a home sale, business transition, divorce, or inheritance—always considering potential tax impacts.

    Icon Image
    Step 4 – Adjust

As life evolves, so should your plan. We monitor your portfolio, adjusting as needed for market shifts, tax law changes, or new goals. We'll tap into a broad network of resources and coordinate with your CPA, attorney, and other key advisors to help keep your financial life aligned with your vision.

7Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
