One of my most formative experiences with money happened the day I graduated from college—the same day my father passed away. He had been diagnosed with a brain tumor the prior Christmas, and he lived five months and five days from terminal diagnosis to his death. He left this world at 54.
At the time, my father had only recently come out to family and a few close friends. My parents were no longer married, and our family story didn't fit a traditional mold. After he died, I inherited a sum that felt significant and sobering—money that carried both responsibility and meaning. That experience shaped how I think about planning: it's never just about numbers; it's about real lives, complicated realities, and the people we love. I began investing shortly after, at 23, and it set me on a path I didn't expect.
My early professional life was rooted in the art world. I earned a BFA from MICA and later an MFA from CCA. Coming out of graduate school, I wanted my work to help make a tangible difference. I managed an artists' studio and then moved into nonprofit arts and education work. Over time, I became disillusioned by how much of my effort felt like paperwork rather than real impact.
That frustration ultimately became a turning point. I pivoted into financial education and began building my own business. I was recruited by my own advisor—an entrepreneurial woman who saw something in me—and I embraced a model that was old-fashioned, direct, and, unexpectedly, a perfect fit: meeting people where they are, earning trust one conversation at a time, and helping families articulate goals that actually matter.
As my practice grew, so did my clarity about who I most wanted to serve. I found deep affinity with artists, LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples, women building wealth on their own terms, and the neighbors and communities I care about. Today, my mission is to help break the "starving artist" stereotype, to empower and inform women in investing and personal finance, and to ensure that non-traditional couples have an advisor who understands their lives without requiring translation.
If any of that resonates, I'm glad you're here.
