HELPING YOU PREPARE FOR THE TRANSITION OF A LIFETIME
Saving for retirement is a lifelong process that relies on defined financial planning strategies. Below you’ll find tips and resources to help you get started and learn more about each of the three major
phases in the retirement journey.
phases in the retirement journey.
Phase 1: Accumulation (Saving for Retirement)
Time can be one of the most powerful tools in a retirement savings plan, allowing you to potentially build a healthy nest egg even if, when starting out, you are only able to save small amounts. Over time, the effects of compounding coupled with consistent contributions to a retirement account can help turn even small deposits into a significant balance.
Phase 2: Transition into Retirement
The decision to retire is the beginning of a new stage in life. Some people look forward to it as a time to relax and enjoy the fruits of their decades-long career. Others may worry about their ability to support their lifestyle given higher costs and other challenges. As a result, it’s important to take everything into account when considering your retirement plan.
Phase 3: In Retirement
Today, individuals have a high likelihood of living until their mid-80s, and it's not uncommon anymore to reach substantially beyond that. That means it’s even more important to be able to plan for a retirement that will span two decades and potentially much more. Longer retirements are great outcomes but may also place stress on a household’s finances.
