Our Story

I came to attend college in the United States with the intention of earning my degree and returning home to my native Kuwait. The first Gulf War put an end to those plans. So I stayed, got a job at a bank and discovered that I have a passion for helping other people make plans to reach their financial goals. I moved to Southern California, married an incredible woman, started a family and steadily built a successful practice.

While none of my clients has that same story, almost all of them have a similar one. My team and I work with families of Indian descent who have built thriving businesses in places like Curacao, St. Martin and Panama. We serve Middle Eastern families who have children living and working in Europe and the U.S. Their family lives and business activities create complex financial challenges that cross borders and span generations. Our goal is to help them create, implement and maintain highly customized and truly comprehensive plans to meet those challenges.

We limit our practice to a very small number of clients, so we can provide each of them with the kind of exceptional service we believe they deserve.     • Ammar Lughod
      Executive Director
      International Client Advisor

      Drawing on nearly 25 years of wealth management experience, Ammar Lughod serves an elite global clientele of entrepreneurs, executives and their families. Ammar works to tailor each relationship to the specific needs and preferences of his clients. This invariably includes a customized investment strategy, but also may involve cash management and lending solutions, family office consulting and a broad range of lifestyle advisory, wealth education and philanthropy management offerings.

      Having worked with international clients throughout his career, Ammar has developed a detailed knowledge of the wealth management structures and specialized products required by families who reside outside the United States. Ammar joined Morgan Stanley International Wealth Management in 2016, and became a member of the firm’s prestigious President’s Club in 2017. He previously spent 15 years in the International office of UBS in Beverly Hills, California, and eight years in a similar capacity at Merrill Lynch. Ammar began his career as a branch operations specialist at Perpetual Bank, gaining customer service skills that continue to inform the high-touch service model he delivers to his clients today.

      A native Arabic speaker, Ammar was born and raised in Kuwait to Palestinian parents. He moved to the United States to pursue his studies at Oklahoma City University, where he graduated with a B.S. in finance. Ammar lives in Santa Monica with his wife, Abeer Othman, and their teenage children, Layth and Zayna. An avid reader and athlete, Ammar spends his off hours playing tennis and soccer, or immersed in a good book.

    • Vanessa N. Villarreal Elkins

      Having worked with international wealth management clients for over 17 years, Vanessa Villarreal Elkins brings a detailed understanding of the complex account requirements of ultra high net worth families who reside outside the United States. Vanessa plays a critical role on the team, leveraging the Morgan Stanley International Wealth Management platform to introduce new products and services for the benefit of non-resident clients and their beneficiaries. Vanessa is fluent in both Spanish and English.

      As a 2017 Leadership Readiness Program candidate and Support Professional Coach in the Beverly Hills Complex, Vanessa works closely with branch management to further develop the information sharing between the support staff.

      Vanessa graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in economics. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Daniel, and takes every opportunity she can to travel throughout the world.
