My Story

Early in my life, I developed the habit of working hard to accomplish my goals. Like most kids, I had the dream of playing professional baseball. While I did not reach my dream, I was able to earn a Division I baseball scholarship to South Dakota State University. Before going to South Dakota State, I worked part-time at In-N-Out Burger, went to school full-time at a local Junior College, and practiced baseball for 3-4 hours a day. Needless to say, this grind helped me develop the traits needed to manage my business today.

In 2012, I started my journey with Morgan Stanley after completing my MBA at San Jose State. I developed a passion for the capital markets during the dot com era, where I learned that substantial wealth could be created and lost in the matter without the right planning. This passion led me to build a career as a financial advisor. In my role, I am able to develop personal relationships with a select group of families and provide customized solutions to navigating the capital markets and to accomplish their financial goals.

I was lucky enough to join the Menlo Park office, which has some of the top advisors in the country. My office in Menlo Park is extremely collaborative and dynamic, which is unique to many firms and offices. We have 7 advisors in our Menlo Park office with over 30 years of experience and a group of younger advisors, including myself, that help bridge the age gap and utilize technology to our advantage. Our complex has over $125 Billion in assets, which makes us Morgan Stanley’s largest complex around the globe. The firm provides us with a significant amount of resources to help better service and manage our client’s money.

    My goal is to be your personal CFO. Whether you have financial questions, planning issues, or complicated matters; I can help provide you with answers, strategies or connect you with experts that can help. Here are 3 areas I can help you and your family with:
    • Investment Management:
      My philosophy is to develop an investment portfolio that accomplishes your financial goals. Everyone’s financial goals are different, so I customize each client’s portfolio based on their needs, time horizon, and risk tolerance. I believe in quality stocks for long-term growth and appreciation and bonds for income and safety. Developing the right mix, taking into account financial goals, is critical.

      There’s the ongoing debate on whether to invest in actively managed stock funds or passively managed index funds. I prefer to use both. Both strategies complement each other and react differently during certain market conditions. Just like the market goes in cycles, so do active and passive investments.
    • Financial Planning:
      Creating a roadmap to achieving your financial goals is a critical part of the wealth management process. Not only does it help me provide the appropriate investment advice, but it helps my clients understand what they can do today in order to accomplish their goals in the future. I conduct an in-depth analysis and discovery process to understand your financial goals and develop a strategy to achieve them. The financial plan is dynamic and always changing, so I like to update it at least once per year and whenever there is a life changing event.
    • Private Banking:
      In addition to managing your assets, I can help you analyze the liability side of your balance sheet. In the past 10 years, Morgan Stanley has dedicated a significant amount of resources to our private banking division. We have multiple private bankers in our office that help serve your banking needs. We provide everyday cash management services, traditional home mortgages, and tailored lending to solve complicated situations.
    There is a 4 step process to getting started with developing a roadmap to achieve financial success.
    • Discover:
      Our relationship begins with a thorough understanding of you – your needs, your lifestyle and family, and your goals for the future. During the initial interactions, I like to get a feel for how you’ve managed money prior to our conversation, understand what you’ve done to achieve your financial goals, and your understanding and risk tolerance for the capital markets. Here is just a sample of questions I can help answer:

      When can I retire?
      How much money do I need for retirement?
      What should I do with my company stock? Should I sell? If so, when and how much?
      Should I make extra principal payments to my mortgage?
      How much should I save for my kid’s college education?
      Are my investments aligned with my retirement income goals?
    • Create:
      After discussing your goals and current investments, I will work with you to develop a roadmap to achieve and protect the outcomes you envision. The investment strategy and financial plan is customized to your needs.
    • Implement:
      Once we agree on the strategy and plan, I will help you implement the investment strategy and financial plan. During this stage, we will communicate frequently to get the accounts setup, bank accounts linked, and external accounts moved over to Morgan Stanley.
    • Adjust:
      Communication is critical after implementing the initial strategy. I communicate with my clients every 3-4 months and provide market commentary, updates on the portfolio, and any adjustments, if needed. I will help you monitor your progress and make adjustments as life evolves, markets and tax laws shit, and priorities change.
    Located right in the heart of Silicon Valley, much of the wealth in this area has been created through company stock compensation programs. What I’ve found is many families in Bay Area have a majority of their net worth invested in their company’s stock. How you incorporate your RSUs or Stock Options into your overall financial plan is the most critical planning decision. Over the years, I’ve helped my clients incorporate a number of different diversification strategies to help them achieve financial success.  

    One common tool for diversification is a 10b5-1 plan. Morgan Stanley is the leader on Wall Street in the number of 10b5-1 shares sold. Our 10b5-1 desk has the experience and trading capabilities that allow me to develop selling strategies that accomplish your goals whether the stock price goes up or down. We provide white glove services for executives and help create a strategy that incorporates your financial goals.
